Okay, here is my 2 cents worth:
-I had my fanny pack so that I could put the things in it that I wanted most and attach it to the rails of my bed. Made it easy to reach without straining my tummy muscles. Anything that was on the table eventually got rolled out of reach, but my fanny pack was ALWAYS attached to the bed.
-in the fanny pack: chapstick, reading glasses, cell phone, earplugs!!!, hand lotion, some face wipes, hair ties (I have long hair), hair brush
-I brought my own slip-on slippers that went on my feet without bending over to get into them
-two of my own pillows-one of them was a lifesaver on the way home between me and the seat belt. They had very distinctive pillowcases so the hospital staff would have no trouble telling which ones were mine.
-a zip-down, hooded long sleeve sweatjacket-I lived in it for the two days I was in the hospital over the hospital gown. I brought my own sleep shirt, but never felt well enough to get into it until it was time to leave. Then I went home in the same sweats I showed up in.
-I brought trash magazines with a lot of pictures and that was about all I could handle. I watched, or really dozed through a lot of television. There is no way I could have crocheted.

I'm glad I didn't bother with shampoo and lots of toiletries. I wouldn't have bothered. By the time I was feeling up to showering and getting clean, I was home.

The notebook was essential to me because I knew I'd be drugged to the gills, so I wrote down whatever the doc said when he visited, when I last had a pain pill, and when they asked me to measure my urine, I could tell them when and how much.

The backscratcher was a lifesaver too! The pillows caused a mild reaction of pimples on my back, and they itched like crazy! The scratcher also helped me keep those slipper socks up.

Love the idea of the fanny pack on the bed rails! Wish I'd known about that little hint.
