1 week post hysterectomy - removing dressing advice needed x

I'm starting week 2 of recovery and feeling really good despite my midriff

Normal soreness worse at night as I move a lot in bed but bruising is out now and haven't had many painkillers.

The only problem I have and it may seem silly but it's really worrying me as I really hate plasters I mean really hate anything stuck in my skin to the point of makes me very anxious even a plaster for a blood test brings me out in sweats .

It wasn't clear and I have no follow up appointment to when I can remove it ,plan was to leave it alone I till I can bath and start slowly to soak it off,,
The day I left hospital the nurse came in and before I knew it ripped the dressing off which was Agony and also half stuck on to my public har so for the first time in my life I know I'll never have a wax there!!! She placed a new one over
Now the dressing if further down on more hair and I'm still not convinced has convened the whole wound as I'm pretty sure u can see a small piece of the wound,I wasn't stitched I was glued so it's hard to tell.

So now I'm resting that's all I can think about ,any advice would be great ,the thought of removing it makes me feel ill I shall remove it myself as I don't trust any one and will pick slowly for hours if needed but just don't know when to start doing it.

Also while I'm here I feel ok walking and dying to go out for a walk with partner not to far,any thoughts on this

Advanced thanks

Hi Essexbutterfly! When you can remove your dressing should be in your post-op instructions. For me while I had a TLH, I also had the 3" bikini incision which came with it. My instructions stated that I could remove my dressing two days after my surgery. I had steri strips keeping my incision together. I think I was able to remove the dressing for the most part without getting into the shower, however, if there was some oozing that dried on there, I applied warm water to it and was able to safely pull it off without affecting the steri strips.

As for walking, if you feel you can walk a little bit outside, then go for it. Keep in mind that you have to make it back to the house, so maybe keep the first one outside shorter and increase it a little each day as you feel up to it.

Happy Healing!
