me again..

Ive posted my hyster story on this board and id like to thank all of your who have sent me private messages.. it means alot to me. I look forward to reading other stories and helping by sharing with everyone. THis site rocks !!!

Im a little upset right now... so this is a seperate thread. I am only 5 days post op so all i should be concerning myself with right now is pampering myself like a princess and relaxing. But i had a conversation with a nurse friend that puzzled me so i need to ask a question...

She told me that orgasms will never be the same in the future. and to be prepared for it. She said you cannot orgasm NORMALLY without your uterus and cervix. I still have both ovaries, mind you. I explained to her that i thought your vagina contracts (and kegels) during orgasm but she says im wrong? She has had a hyst in the past and says that orgasms now begin at her clitoris and go down her legs? Nothing in the vagina? Im a nurse too and im very confused and upset by what she has said. she claims that when our vagina and kegels contract its either US doing it, or our uterus and cervix and that cannot happen anymore after a hyst?

Again this should be the furthest thing from my mind right now but am i stupid or is she right?

help!!!

Thank you

jackie

me again..

Hello jackie, I am almost 12 months post op and although my libido has become very low, my orgasms are still the same as they were before. I don't think you should worry at all.

me again..

Well I'm 3 weeks out from my TVH, and kinda sorta accidently had a big O...lol! Seriously...sitting here, legs crossed watching tv, and wham...and it was just as normal as before my surgery, vaginal contractions and all. There are SOME women that have cervical orgasms and uterine contractions, I'm not one of them so I have no changes in mine.

I wonder what sort of crystal ball this woman has that enables her to view your future? Perhaps she meant well, but I wish she wouldn't speak in absolutes like that. Some women find their orgasms to be exactly the same after surgery; some find them worse, and some better. If you had uterine contractions with orgasm before the hysterectomy, obviously those will not be there. However, unless there is nerve damage, vaginal contractions should still occur. Also, however the orgasms are during the first few months after surgery, doesn't necessarily mean they will be the same a year or two or ten later. Mine were definitely shallower the first year or so, but have since then become more like the way they were pre hyst.

Everyone's experience is different. While it's a good idea to be prepared for the full range of outcomes *just in case*, I don't think your nurse friend was doing you any favors by saying that your orgasms "will never be the same", just because hers aren't. Here's hoping you will be able to report back to her at some point that her prediction was incorrect.

s,
-Linda

me again..

Jackie..... s! I have been on this site since January and took the opportunity to read a lot and on the post op side as well. I am 12 post op and have not even begun to think about orgasims yet. But from what I have read, a lot of women have the same or even better. I agree with SufferBabe, that your friend was insensitive! I also believe that a positive attitude will help in most situations. I personally feel that my sex life will be much more fun & satisifying because I had the surgery. We had a great sex life so I think it will continue. I am prepared that it might be "different" but I will cross that bridge when I get to it. I think your friend's comment falls into the category of speaking without thinking. We are all different! Good luck sweetie!

I am 3+ months post-op and although the big "O" is "different" it is still VERY satisfiying...............I too have retained my ovaries (also my cervix)......I have had problems post-op with libido ,but then again I had a problem BEFORE my surgery...............Our bodies go through MANY changes and what is true for one CERTAINLY isn`t neccesarily true for all.......we`re all individual`s............Please take your "friend`s" words with a grain of salt........I`m sure she meant well; but her experience post hysterectomy is HER individual experience..........not true ,hard fact`s for all..........Blessing`s to you,Renee
