Throat issues

Tomorrow will be a week post-op. I'm still having problems with my throat, I am having trouble not choking on water and my voice is still hoarse and weak. Is this normal!?

Re: Throat issues

You may have some damage from the tube they put down there to maintain your airway during surgery?? I would DEFINATELY consult with your surgeon or at the very least your GP about this!! Good luck with everything x

Re: Throat issues

I am two week this Friday and I feel the same. I feel like there is something there and last night it kept me up. It's not a sore throat as in a cold feeling, It is driving me crazy!

Re: Throat issues

When I had my TAH in October, I had trouble swallowing any protein for about 2 1/2 weeks. I just had my ureter repair surgery and am experiencing the same thing again. It's not a 'sore' throat, but an 'irritated, dry' throat.

Yes....exactly. Scratchy and yucky. Still have moments of hoarseness. I thought reflux but now think it's the tubes.

Re: Throat issues

I had LSH this morning and my dry, scratchy sore throat is making me cough and is more irritating than my small abdominal incisions. I was told it would only last 2-3 days. I sure hope so !

Re: Throat issues

You could try gargling with salt water.

Re: Throat issues

I had the same issue after surgery too. Try using some throat lozenges. They helped me a lot.

Re: Throat issues

I too had this from the intubation, my anaesthetist said that I was a difficult intubation and I suspect the metal laryngoscope scratched the sides of my throat. I found gargling with warm salty water eased the pain. Merry Christmas to everyone.
