vaginal cysts?
Ok, I have been waiting for my ovaries to kick in full speed since my surgery in Feb and I think it has finally happened but something strange....prior to my hyster, whenever my period was due, I would develop and large blood/pus filled cyst on my inner thigh, high up close to the crease in my leg. Well, this month, right around a week before I would menstruate, I wiped and had an ouchy, wiped again and ouch!!! So I investigated, and here, on the inside of my vaginal "lip" wa sone of these cysts. It became very sore and drained and went away in a matter of 2-3 days. Well, a few days later, another one on the other "lip". What the heck????? I never experienced this but boy does it get sore!!!!! I inspected more on this one, and squeezed at it and it oozed some pus, no blood, but seems like it keeps filling up, draining, and getting sore. Has anyone experienced this and what can I do about it, aside form the DR visit(it is embarrassing). I am anxious to se eif anyone else has noticed this since their surgery, or even, prior to it, so I know how to handle it. Thanks so much!!!

hi boredtodeath,
sorry in advanced for being a long reply..........
i had suffered the type of cysts you described, since age of 31 and i am 45 now.
dr.s always called them boils up until i landed in my new dr. office (gyn-ob)1/2005. my new dr. called them a cysts, possibly something called 'hidradenitis supporativa.'
but they never came w/ the period...they would start in mid-cycle until they burst. the infections grew worse over the years.
i hesitated after a few initial years of suffering - always going to dr. for. the cost, the time off of work to go to dr. and because of the constant treatment of antibiotics. which i did not feel comfortable with always being prescribed...it didn't work.
when i did try to get medical care, i never found a way to rid my body of unwanted visitors.
they grew over the years to golfball size, in the upper inside crease. when for whatever reason, they decided to switch sides, i then had to adjust everything to pampering, salving, wrapping and doing everything gingerly because of that side.
they weren't infectious to anyone except me.
in 12/04 i suffered the worst breakout ever and was exactly as you described...it ...they spread out over the private area w/ alot of swelling to go with.
often in the past the 'cyst' would expell puss, then bright red or brown blood. sometimes i was lucky enough to have one pop up, then gradually go down. usually they took a 7 day period to peak and the another week and 1/2 to drain and then begin healing.
and on rare case expelled green, which is by far the worst type of infection you can get. the pain is like a hot poker magnified if infection has set in. otherwise the main pain is the type that feels very very sore and sends chills up up your back.
my new dr. said something about referring me to a dermatologist if continued to get. well, i at the time, could only deal w/ one thing at a time. i began the lupron depot injections. they boost the estrogen levels before they take them down into chemical menopause. it was about two week into the shots after a two week period that another visitor tried to pop up, but then it disappeared. and after the second shot, one tried to pop up again and then disappeared.
i found out after all the years of suffering these cysts, that it was my hormones setting off these cysts.
within a week after my hysterectomy the skin where the cysts would pop up actually felt softer and not as thick...where combs / tunneling may have developed from years of getting.
if i were to ever get one again, i would definitely go to a dermatologist w/ the suspision of 'HS'.
a good starting point site to read about HS and other skin conditions is.....
http://www.diagnose-me.com/cond/C655082.html
i truly hope that your condition is a limited one and that a culture can be done as soon as possible. if it is boil w/ staff infection or related to something else, it would better for you to know now and not have to have prolonged your worry or embarrassment.
i am the queen of being / feeling embarrassed and i guarantee
theres nothing to be embarrassed about. it has nothing to do w/ hygiene 99.9% of the time, as you may have heard or read.
i wish you all the best in finding a solution. m

vaginal cysts?
Dear Mecelena,
Thanks sooooooooooooooooo much for your educating reply. I am on my way to the site you told me about right after posting and want to read up on it so I can call my DR and get an appointment ASAP. I am on the downside of the 2nd one on my labia(meaning it is slowly going away finally) but as I mentioned previously, there was one on the other side right before this one, so who knows if I will get another? They are quite painful and now that you mention it, I have ben plagued with what i always thought, were infected hairs on my inner thigh off and on through the last 5 yrs or so. To the point that I dont like to wear swimming suits for fear someone will see them.. I hv tried acne treatment on my thighs, all kinds of things, and nothng makes them stop from coming, it's a fact of life for me I guess. I never have a fever accompanying them that I know of.....just the terrible embarrassment. So I pamper them and keep myself expecially clean in those areas(as I mind the heat and perspire) I thought maybe THAT was part of the problem but as often as I shower in the summer months when it is hot, I don't think so. I will read up more on this and come bk to let yu know how I make out. Feel free to email me and we can keep in touch-you are A blessing in disguise to me as I read this!!!! Thanks again for sharing the info and your experiences!!!! kathy

hi kathy,
so happy that my reply may help you find a name for and hopefully a solution to these kind of cysts.
i did pm you last night w/ a reply too.
the little bumps appeared like chill bumps that just never seemed to go all the way down. that was in my late twenties / early 30's, when in my early 30's, i problably wore my last pair of bathing suit bottoms, wore shorts instead.
vericose veins on my legs and the unwanted cysts and scarring, just helped me to decide not to wear another bathing suit in public, again.
no matter the level of hygiene, i could not prevent them. stopped using feminine care products , tried different soaps and special / natural soaps and food elimination. the list goes on.
for the pain of the cysts, again, another list of remedies to minimize the irritation and pain that came w/.
i found thru research of hs, that a certain kind of antibiotic is used to try to combat and prevent the outbreaks.
for me, if the cysts come back, i will have a good starting point to seek out medical help, too
since the lupron and then the surgery, i cannot tell you how
wonderful it will be to not have the month long hormonal battle, period floods, clots and pain, the attack of the cysts and all the other stuff that i had to combat every month for so many years.
i do feel like a new woman w/ a new life!
take care and look forward to hearing about your discoveries. m

vaginal cysts?
Hi again, Mecelena,
I got your PM and am looking forward to your email, also. I am almost positive that this HS is not what I have as looking on the pics, and reading further into it, I don't have all the classic symptoms they describe. At least I hope it's not the Stage 1 they talk about, and if it is, it has had to hv been dormant or slow progressing all these years, but my heart goes out to all of the people who suffer from it-it looks so painful!!! Yes, I have marks from previous incidents on my inner thighs and don't wear swimming suits without a tshirt long enuf to cover that area up, myself, but I dont hv the problem in my thigh area nearly as bad as it used to get in the summer when I was younger. I am keeping track of the next month's cycle to see if it hapoens again nearing that time to nail it down for when I call my DR and want to have a visual for him so will b holding off a tad for the appointment for that. As for the labia cyst, it has drained and is finally leaving-at least the pain of it for now-tak to you son and continued happy healing from your surgery!!!!!

hey kathy,
hoping for your full recovery and that you find more fun rather then restrictions in the future!!!!
i checked another site that i haven't looked at for awhile. just another place to research and help you take the reins in finding some solutions.
http://www.dermnetnz.org/treatments/antiandrogens.html
searched on cysts and then on hs......and info popped up on hormonal treatments to counteract the effects of male hormones such as testosterone. there are 5 conditions showing up that can be caused or aggrevated by androgenic hormones........very interesting. i know there a hundreds of different twists and turns to finding a cause and then a solution that works for one individual.
maybe this site will assist you in monitoring your cysts and possible acne, before you get back to your dr. or a dermatologist.
your post is a really good one and if it helps other sisters plagued by same or similar conditions, you will have helped many w/ out even realizing it!!!! thank you.
will email soon. big maria
