I lost my job!

This Friday will be six weeks post op for me.
I went back to work after four weeks part time. Then somehow I pulled a ligament ( one of which is helping my bladder to stay in place ). So, I had to see my doc Monday he wanted me off that Monday, Tuesday and then return today part time...thru the week. Then Monday I could return full time.I called my boss Monday and let her know...she was okay...that is fine. So then she called me yesterday and said we are going to have to let you go because we really need someone full time.I was like I will be Monday..........
I am so hurt and angry right now.......
Not only am I mourning the lose of my female parts...now this....
I don't mean to be a downer...but I just can not get over it....I think I am in shock!

Re: I lost my job!

Mwheeler,

Sorry to hear about you losing your job. I also lost mine because of my surgery. I have lifting restrictions, and I was told that they need me back 100% or nothing. Employers can be so uncaring, can't they. I was pretty bummed out for a while. Then I got to thinking that maybe it was a blessing. I really don't want to work for some one who is so uncaring. I will find a new and better place, and so will you!!

Take care of your health and think positive. Your health is the most important thing that you have!! You will find a new job.

You're not alone my dear friend. I went thru a similar situation and lost my job as well. For the better, it was before my hyst because I needed so much time off. Looking back now (my surgery was 12/22) I am grateful. I just got off disability, and am now on unemployment. It's my prayer you can get those benefits. It's hard for some people to understand that people recover at a different rate. For example, I had to clean up some "stuff" my cat left behind. Happened to be under the bed. Once I was done, my stomach swelled a few hours later and I was so exhausted I could hardly keep my eyes open. I called the doc and he said "you did what"? Mine was a difficult surgery and he said it will be 6 months minimum before I'm back to myself again. I'm starting to believe him.

I was in shock too, as I'd been with the company for 12 years. Now I feel it a blessing, as there is no way I could do both.

Do your best to think of the positive and file for unemployment, or see if your doc can extend your disability benefits. You think you can't live on that amount, but it's been since 12/1 for me, and we're still doing just fine. We've cut back quite a bit (cable, cell phones, and I only buy things on sale). But for your health it's worth it.

You never know - this could be a blessing in disguise.

Love n' hugz,

Melanie

Rose - you're spot on. In the corporate world you're only a number, a blip on the screen. Life moves on to bigger and better things. I thank the good Lord for every day!

Re: I lost my job!

It really makes you find out what is so important--------your health and happiness. Without that, you don't have much. After all, it is just money, and you do need that to live, but probably not as much as you think. We also have cut way back since I have been on disability, extra channels on cable tv, etc. And, I don't miss those things!! Luckily for me, the state of CA will let me be on disability for up to one year if needed. I am looking at a third surgery, so I may be really close to one year too!! I know that this is just a little speed bump in my recovery, then I will be on to bigger and better things!!!

Re: I lost my job!

Thanks Ladies.....
It is such a same...and hearing these stories just makes me frustrated!
That someones health means nothing...to the corp world.
I only needed the rest of this week......I think I will be in shock for a bit.
And yes, it is bitter sweet.....bitter for how they went about this...and sweet because I too do not want to work for someone who thinks the world is perfect.
I am sorry to those who lost their jobs........
Even if we move on to better.....this stings!

Re: I lost my job!

Doesnt FMLA apply? If you returned to work with medical restrictions, arent you protected by a law of some sort??

Re: I lost my job!

I would definately see if you are covered by FMLA or some other similar coverage. If it is covered by FMLA, the first thing I would do is to contact your state labor board and see exactly what your options are. I went through something similar with my last job and they had to give me my position back and reimburse me for back pay and benefits. I hope that this will work out in some positive way for you. I will send (((HUGS))) and prayers your way.
