i found out some answers

I called the today and he said that the spinal was morphine spinal to help control the pain. He said I will get a general anestheia and when I wake up I will have this spinal morphine thingy. The doctor does not think I will have to have any bladder repair work. My problem was spastic bladder and he prescribed Detrol LA. I take this pill up until surgery.

I greatly appreciate everyone's advice, I also have a question about ordering the book will it have time to get to KY before my June 3 surgery? I was wondering about which foods to eat when I came home so I would not have I know the book probably has great information.

Thank you to everyone for all your information. I am very nervous about the surgery and my co-workers are tired of hearing about it but I know you guys are not.

I'm glad your DR was able to answer your question about the spinal. One less thing on your mind!

When I ordered my book it came fairly quickly.

Here are a couple of links that will help until the book comes:

And the home page has some drop down menus at the bottom of the page with lots of great advice

Hi Rhody

I stuck with a pretty soft diet for a few weeks. Mostly avoided raw vegetables, salads, spicey foods for awhile. I ate lot's of yogurt, soup, sandwiches, pasta, ice cream fruit. My appetite was lighter than normal so I didn't have any problem with weight gain.
Also the Gax-X and stool softeners were a life saver for me. Check with your doctor on those, but it is probably worth having on hand.
I also drank alot of cranberry juice and also used it to flavor my water.

Hi rhody!

We never tire of listening, do we?

For the gas problem, I didn't drink from a straw, drank only water the first day. After the cath came out, I drank cranberry juice to avoid a UTI and tons of water, too. And I WALKED tons! That's what really helped me. You have to get things moving in there.

Once I was home, I didn't want constipation & gas so I ate lettuce, soup, sandwiches, Popsicles. I tried to stay away from broccoli, green peppers and pickles for the first week or two. I did have a burger in my second week, YUM! Drank that water and walked too.

I did have stool softeners sent home with me along with gas pills. I took the stool softeners every night and was fine. Never strained, which is what my doctor told me to avoid!

Oh, and in the castle, the night before you leave, they check your temp. in the middle of the night. To avoid having it rise, my doc told me to walk and breathe into the tube thingie, right before bed, to avoid having a high temp that would prevent me from leaving the next day. I did those things and it worked!
