Surgery date Sept 21st

I am going in on the 21st for Lap/Vag hysterectomy they are going to leave one ovary.I'm getting nervous.I've been trying to keep myself busy, cleaning doing laundry grocery shopping, making lists trying to get everything in order.I'm afraid I'm going to wear myself down and end up getting sick before my surgery date.
When I came home last Tuesday and told my husband what the doctor and I had discused, and that she recomended I go ahead and have the hysterectomy only thing he said was "OK".I've had several surgeries in the past for endo and cysts and adhesions.I have been going in about every 18 months to 2 years because the adhesions start to cause problems with my bowels.I know that he is nervous about me going in,I'm just not sure if he understands fully what the recovery time is going to be.He has seen how I do after the Lap when she goes in and does the laser.I just hope he understands that this is a little more involved.
Sending well wishes and a speedy recovery for all of you who about to have surgery.Take care

They, for the most part I think, 'get it'. They just process it differently. I was very afraid coming home with DH as I felt he had kind of brushed this off my entire pre-op. Maybe it was sitting the 4 hours I was in Surgery and the 2 hours I was in recovery. Maybe it was seeing me cry once when I coughed (and the blood seep through my stitches into my gown - Don't let that scare you, I bleed easy!) But he got it.

He was a doll when I got home and still is. I had a small set back yesterday and he was 'right there'. Kind of amazing but I do think they get it, they just show it differently.

If your concerned, ask your Dr to say in front of him in the hospital that 'you know this is quite a bit different' and go over your restrictions. He'll hear it.

Best wishes on your surgery. Try to keep in mind that the waiting is the worst and the 1st 36 hours are a close second but then it gets better from there.

Hi, what I found very helpful when i was still waiting for my hyst was "FAQ's for Family and Friends" (click here )
I printed it and gave it to my DH. It helped him to understand what I was going through and how to help best. Maybe it can help you too

Best wishes.
