Dr's office just called about my pre approval...

I've worked in healthcare, and used to have to give the pre-certification reports to the insurance companies. It's fairly standard for them to pre-approve a set number of days based upon what they think the average patient needs would be. Once those days are up, then there is a utilization review nurse for each unit who is in contact with your insurance company, informing of them of your progress and the doctor's recommendations. Yet another part of the insurance two-step!

Tank can you believe it less than 2 weeks away. I am so darn excited. I need to go do my blood work sometime next week and I will be all good.

Thanks every for the reassurance. I will just sit back and relax.

Dr's office just called about my pre approval...

That's what I was approved for - 2 nights in the castle, I received a letter in the mail with the surgery type and the 2 nights listed. I ended up needing a third day/night, and that was approved also. I received the letter from the insurance company stating that it was approved about a week after I was discharged.

Now I just hope the CT scan they did on that 3rd day got approved also !!!!!

I think it's pretty normal. My dr told me she wanted me to stay three nights and my insurance originally approved me for one. It was funny, because I was already back at home from the hospital and a week later I got a letter from the insurance company saying, "congratulations! we've approved you for two nights!" Then a week later I got another one congratulating me for getting approved for three nights. And I was two weeks post op at that point!
