Pre-Op body wash?

So I had my pre-op appointment at the hospital this morning. TAH is scheduled for 3/2/11. They told me I had to get this special soap that I'm to wash with from the neck down the night before surgery and again the morning of surgery.

I've had two laprascopy surgeries before and 2 c-sections and have never done this. So this one caught me by suprise a little.

I will admit that I was releaved that I don't have to go through the bowel prep the day before considering I have to work.

Re: Pre-Op body wash?

I too had the sponges before my surgery. One the night before and the morning of. I was a bit surprised, because when I had the other surgeries in Nov, though they were in the outpatient building, I did not. I did end up with an infected incision from that surgery. It was black and funky by the time I woke the day after. I actually really liked the sponges. They smelled good and my skin felt great, lol. No infections this time either!

Re: Pre-Op body wash?

I was given a bottle of Hibiclens at my pre op, and was told to take one shower the evening before washing from the neck down, and another shower the morning of surgery. I was also told not to wear any deodorant, perfume, creams, etc, basically to arrive completely clean just from the Hibiclens.

Re: Pre-Op body wash?

I had to take a shower the night before and the morning of my surgery. They told me to go and buy some anti-bacterial soap like Dial and use it.

Re: Pre-Op body wash?

I had to use the stuff they gave me at the pre-op. It smelled like alcohol. LOL It wasn't any big deal. My dad had to do the same thing before his lung biopsy a few months ago.

Re: Pre-Op body wash?

I had to shower with antibacterial soap, change the sheets and wear freshly laundered pjs the night before, wipe my belly the night before and the morning of with those antibacterial cloths.

I know it is to prevent infections. Infections picked up at the hospital are bad bugs worth trying to avoid if possible!

Re: Pre-Op body wash?

I wasn't given anything when I had my pre-op with the doctor yesterday, so I'm guessing I don't need to do anything special. I have my pre-op testing next Tuesday, maybe they'll give me anything.
