Holidays and surgery......
Since I have my surgery on the 20th, has anyone by day 5 felt up to going out to visit? I'm trying to figure out Christmas, and if I don't cook or clean, is it feasible to think I could just sit and visit, and open gifts with the families? SInce we aren't telling my inlaws, it would be awkward not to go! Thanks!

oh boy....um, from my experience, no but I don't know how much or what type of surgery you're doing. Seriously, my two week check up was my first trip out of the house and it was brutal but mostly because of my rectocele repair. Either way, I think most of the sisters will tell you that 5 days is really really pushing it. Not trying to be preachy but the message here over and over has always been that you only have one chance to heal right. If you don't want to tell them, think of a different excuse and stay in bed honey.
hugs and best wishes on a successful surgery

Holidays and surgery......
I felt good at five days. I wasn't feeling well enough to hide the fact that I had just had surgery. So if you aren't telling the in-laws - period - I would say no you aren't going to feel like going. My surgery went great. I had no pain post-op until I started walking. And even then it wasn't bad. But even that being the case, I walked very slow. And I tired easily. I couldn't have hid it very well.
Good luck making your decisions.

I was in the hospital for 4 days so I definitely couldn't image going anywhere the next day for a visit.
Since you may have a much less invasive surgery than I did, maybe you would feel well enough to go somewhere for a short visit. However based what you said in your post, I would be concerned about being in a situation where you could not be in control of your recovery process. Will you be able to able to rest, nap, take your pain meds, etc when you need to? Is the trip a long ride in the car, is it on smooth roads or bumpy? Realize that the trip can be worse than the destination.
As stitcher8 said, no matter how well you feel you will not be able to hide the fact you had surgery 5 days prior.
Again, not to be preachy or a broken record, you only have one chance to heal so please take care of yourself.

I am on day 8 and the only trip I have taken is today down the stairs and to the mailbox. I can't imagine going somewhere 5 days after surgery. You have one opportunity to heal properly, you need to take care of yourself and not worry about family obligations.

Ugg, no way at day 5 was I ready to go visit. Sitting up for long periods of time was not a good time either.
This is YOUR time to heal and only one chance to do it right. I am not familiar with vaginal hysts, since I had an abdominal hyst....but with mine car rides, etc. were not a good time.
TAKE IT EASY.

i can't fathom it.
if someone simply tossed a gift to you;
or a child or pet leaped into your lap to hug you;
or if someone made you laugh out loud;
you would be in so much pain it would become immediately apparent, at the very least, and you could INJURE YOURSELF.
If you're THAT intent on being secretive, tell them you have food poisoning and are continuously vomiting or something else horrible so they cannot expect you to leave your home. You are being irresponsible if you try to pull off such a huge charade.

I'm 5 days before you and I've already told anyone who's interested in seeing me that they'll have to come to me. I do not plan to leave my house before 2 weeks, unless it's to go to the doctor. I'm determined to heal properly and I'm being very selfish!

Thanks so much ladies. I just didn't want to rock the boat family wise, but when I told DH, he was dead set against going anywhere, said basically the same thing you are all saying. I love having this site to help me through this!
