Safe to Diet 3 Weeks Post Op?

I have lost about 8 pounds with surgery and would like to keep going. I want to lose another 10. Is is safe to diet post op. My surgery was June 29th. My body seems to crave certain foods.

You need to make sure you are getting proper nutrition. Check with your doctor.

Re: Safe to Diet 3 Weeks Post Op?

I lost around 8 pounds after surgery, mostly due to not having much appetite the first two weeks. I was strongly encouraged to eat more, especially meat. For about another three weeks, I ate quite a lot and I lost about 2 pounds. I was walking regularly by 2 weeks post-op. My weight's been up and down a couple of pounds since then, due to vacation eating and more walking.

So, I am focusing on my walking and going back to the way I was eating pre-op - less meat and carbs, more fruits and vegetables, a little wine. Basically, the Mediterranean Diet.

Overall, I've lost 65 pounds since 1996. Spent a few years in the morbidly-obese category and nearly 30 years total in the obese category. Now, I'm back down to merely overweight. I plan to lose about 45 pounds over the next year or two, so I'm working on accelerating my weight loss. I'm off of Lipitor and would like to stay off of that (will know at my next regular check-up if my cholesterol is better without it). I'd like to see if more weight loss will let me dump the Benicar as well, but I know thinner family members have high blood pressure so that might not be possible.
