1yr Post Op and Weight Gain

I had my full hysterectomy last Nov (2011 - removed both ovaries, cervix, uterus and tubes) due to bad endometreosis (as well as high grade abnormal cervical cells). I don't regret having the hysterectomy. I have been pain free since. I have had very little menopause symptoms (I am on HRT). One major change I have noticed though is in my weight. I have always struggled with my weight. At my best I am down in the high 120s and usually my highest is around 180ish. Since my surgery I have gradually gained weight and I am now at 215lbs! I feel so discouraged with my weight. Just wondering if anyone else is in the same boat and anything they found that worked in losing the weight (I watch what I eat and exercise).

Re: 1yr Post Op and Weight Gain

Have you tried an online diary such as My Fitness Pal to keep track of your exercise and food intake? It really helps in knowing how much you are taking in and how much is going out in terms of activity. For me, the one thing that does work is a daily walk. I walk 9 to 10 km daily and 12 on the weekends. It is slow going and when I over eat, the scale goes the wrong way but overal, the trend is that I am losing. I was down 50 lbs but gained some back due to a cruise. I am back on the downwards trend as of now.

Re: 1yr Post Op and Weight Gain

Try to walk more. Even if you don't feel up to it. Even simple things like parking your car further away, walking between various stops if they aren't too far apart.

I lost a little weight right after my hysterectomy, those it's been pretty steady since then. I am planning to go on the Ornish plan shortly to try to get a better handle on my eating. I need to lose about 50 pounds to be of "normal weight."
