Is depression normal after 3+mos post-op from a full hysterectomy?

Good Day! I am new to this forum and have been recommended to write out my concerns to fellow hysterSisters. I live in the Caribbean and after my diagnosis of Uterine Adenocarcinoma, it was decided that i go back to the states for the surgery. Surgery went fantastic (DaVinci Robotics) and recovery went well. My current situation is, I returned to the career I love on the island (teaching music to 4-10 yr olds as well as directing a College Choir) with my new husband (married June 2014), and I am still feeling quite tired. A new symptom has been low level depression. I suffered from clinical depression many years ago so the symptoms are familiar to me. Is this "normal" for hysterectomy survivors? I am, by nature, a very positive person so this is a bit disconcerting! By the way, I am completely cancer free and feel so blessed! I would love some feedback regarding this question please. Thanks so much and I DO feel grateful everday!

Re: Is depression normal after 3+mos post-op from a full hysterectomy?

You sound very in tuned with yourself.... that's excellent. I think that we each go through this journey differently. You have been through many changes in your life in less than one year. You got married, you had major surgery, found out that you HAD cancer, and you are still processing it all mentally. I would listen to your body and your mind, and continue to try to heal your spirit by doing things that are relaxing and stress free activities. Don't forget to drink lots of liquids on a continual basis; and if your symptoms of depression don't start dissipating, you might consider talking to a therapist. Sometimes a third party can help us clarify our thoughts and help us on our journeys. I wish you the best of luck ....

Moongoddess4, Thank you so much for your words of wisdom. They really resonated with me! I forget that I have been through quite a bit in the last year so need to give myself a break. I hope all is well with you and thanks again!
