LAVH: Upcoming hysterectomy 1/8: Outpatient Surgery?

I am scheduled for LAVH on Jan 8th 2016. I received a letter from my insurance company stating that this was approved as an Outpatient procedure. What?? Now I'm really freaking out. This is major surgery!!

I had a da Vinci hysterectomy on 12/9, and my insurance and GYN said it was outpatient....even though I was required to spend the night in the hospital. I'm not sure why.

A lot of hysterectomies are "outpatient". This mean you can stay in hospital up to 23 hours.
You'll from women who went back home a few hours post surgery and didn't have any issues.

Mine is scheduled for 12/31 and mine is considered an outpatient as well. Sorta freaks me out too, but I know should I need more time or medical care they won't kick me out. Same is probably for you too.

Mine was outpatient as well. I stayed overnight and left at 2:30 the next day.

Mine is going to be outpatient as well. I was instructed that yes I will be spending the night on a "23 hour hold" but if insurance were to contact me, all that I should tell them is "outpatient" and leave it at that. Best of luck to you!

Mine was scheduled outpatient as well with a planned overnight stay. It was more than 23 hours though (not because anything was wrong). I had surgery at 7:30 am and left at 1:00 pm the next day. Maybe they didn't start counting the 23 hours until I got to my room.

I had abdominal and went home in 23 hours with no problems.

Mine was outpatient. Went into surgery at 330 and was home by 1130 (with a 2 hour drive from the hospital). No problems and was very happy to be in my own bed and have my own bathroom to use!
