Hysterectomy Survivor's Kit.

Hello everyone,

I am scheduled to have my hysterectomy on this coming Monday, April 28th. I am 28 years old, and have ben married ofr 7 years with no children. I have Stage 4 endometriosis.
I am looking for something I saw a while back. It was a Hysterectomy Survivor's Kit and had all sorts of suggestions of what to take with you to the hospital and stuff for after the surgery as well.
Has anyone heard of this or know the site it is on?

Please let me know as I will be leaving tomorow morning and will not have access to a computer.

Thanks so much.

Hi Jasmine

Hi Jasmine

I'm a LIW for a TVH on May 7th so I'm not completely what to bring but I do know what you should bring some needle work to keep you occupied in bed at the hospital, a list of phone numbers of people to call is a good idea as well and I'm bringing my water bottle b/c I drink a lot of water and prefer to just use my own.

At home you'll need to sit on one of those lifesavers called a donut and you'll need an ice pack and a heating pad.

Also, some nice candles and soothing aromatherapy is always a good idea. Make sure you have some one to help you 24/7 when you first get home and it's always a good idea to have someone with you at the hospital all the time since nurses are always over burdened these days.

Good luck. I'll be praying for you. Let us know how it goes!

The list is great!!

Hi Jasmine. I printed the list of things to take with you and what not to take with you. It is where P-1955 said it is. I found things on there that I would never have thought of. Good luck to on Mon. and I wish you a speedy recovery. Renzo

Hysterectomy Survivor's Kit.

All I used in the hospital:
Toothbrush and toothpaste
Shampoo, cream rinse, moisturizer
A brush
Slippers
Lip balm (moisturizing formula) try to make sure it has no petroleum in it as it will react with oxygen should you need it.

Don’t bother with books, etc. You won’t feel like reading and it’s just something you’ll have to carry home.

Some ladies take their own nighties, but for such a short period of time I didn't bother. I figured I'd let the hospital do the laundry! I went in on Tuesday and came home Thursday.

I didn't take my own pillow either, I would have worried and fussed the whole time that it would get misplaced or left behind.

Home:
Jell-O
Gatorade
Lots of juice,
Yogurt
A shower stool
Thank you cards
a body pillow
heating pad with 2 hr auto cutoff
Popsicles to stave off the thirst.
Have plenty of no-preparation foods on hand, like fruit, soup, cereal, snack bars, etc.
Comfortable clothes to wear. Men’s pajamas are very comfortable, because the large, drawstring waists come up well above the incision, and the button-up tops didn’t have to go over the head. You may want to have large, “granny-panties” in a size or two large than you normally wear (you will be swollen and sore!).

If you’re going to be alone, make sure the phone is where you can reach it at ALL times!

Best wishes!
