Re: Whats good to eat for a BM???

Prunes don't work for me, neither does extra fiber or metamucil. Eating more fiber than your body is used to can actually constipate because it slows down the intestinal track. Fiber intake should only be increased gradually.

I was on my 7th day post-op with no BM and just happened to be at the doc's office that day to remove the staples. He said to take milk of magnesia....it did the trick that afternoon, much faster than anything else I've ever taken previously. It's like my body just needed a kick in the ***** to get moving again (pun intended).

I'm 4 days post op...... I've been doing coconut water smoothies With watermelon, blueberries, and cantaloupe.... Any sweet soft fruit will do no bananas!!!! Any way the gate fully opened today!!!!!!! Coconut water is also hydrating !!!!

Re: Whats good to eat for a BM???

My vote is popcorn too. Works for me! I can't stomach the thought of a prune or prune juice.... and I can't even think about applesauce. Yogurt is good to help add the good bacteria back after the strong antibiotics they give before surgery.

I agree with the prune juice, try warming it up in the microwave first. I also increased the colace from 2x/day to 4x/day!

Re: Whats good to eat for a BM???

I made cauliflower mash before surgery, and after having it post-op 2x my bowels were functioning normally (albeit very painfully).

Re: Whats good to eat for a BM???

I had my gall bladder out 5.16.13 and got constipated. Took dulcolax and lots of cold water while sitting in bathroom. Had hysterectomy on 6.10.13 and the same thing happened. I thought greasy food and fiber would help but no. Dulcolax and drink lots of cold water in the bathroom. It hurt no doubt but the releaf after is sweet. No bearing down. Take pain med after and use an ice pack

Re: Whats good to eat for a BM???

applesauce, greek yogurt, bananas plus odwalla superfoods. I didn't poo for 5 days following surgery. I didn't feel constipated, just gassy. The first one hurt inside, near where the cervix would hve been. extremely sharp pain but passed quickly. still gassy at 8 weeks but poops are great!
