HRT & Intimacy...Please give your opinion!!!

I had my TAH Nov. 2nd. Everything has been going really good. My doctor put me on Estrace 0.5. When I went in for my 4 wk. checkup my doctor told me that being that I was so young (29 next month) he wanted me to be off of my HRT by my 6 mth. mark. He told me how to wean off. Ok...so I thought I was doing really good...so I have been off my HRT for 2 wks. now. I finally had to get back on it yesterday. When I was on it, initimacy was great. Sensations, lubrication, etc. When I wasnt taking it, I wasnt that into it, and I had vaginal dryness really bad. I'm sorry if this is TMI. I'm just wondering if anyone has dealth with this and what is your advise?

I am just curious - did your doctor tell you WHY he wanted you off at such a young age? That just doesn't make sense to me. Many women on here are on HRT for years with no intention of getting off and at an older age. I am 49 and am not sure right now that I plan to get off. I tried cutting mine in half, but went right back on.

He never did tell me why, and I should've asked...but I didnt. My husband is ok...but he was talking to me and telling me that he can see a difference. He says I'm a lot moodier. He says not really bad but yet there is a difference.

If both of your ovaries had been removed it wouldn't make sense to wean off estrogen at your age but perhaps your doctor is thinking that because you have one ovary you won't need to keep using the additional estrogen. Theoretically one ovary should be able to produce enough hormones but that's not always the case. If your remaining ovary isn't producing enough hormones you'll have symptoms.

Let your doctor know what you're experiencing and ask what you should do. Maybe your doctor will be agreeable to letting you remain on the hormone therapy longer until your ovary has more time to wake up and work up to par. You'll know if/when that happens because you'll likely end up with symptoms of too much estrogen. Here's a handy link to refer to to help you figure out the symptoms: Too Much/Too Little.
