Vaginal discharge!?!

I'm almost 2 weeks post-op (TAH), and wondering whether the yellowy discharge I'm experiencing is normal, or infection draining from the sutures where the cervix used to be! Did anyone else experience this?

discharge too

My surgery was march 22 and i'm having a slight yellowish discharge as well. Not sure what it is, but there is no odd smell and the consistancy must be very thin as i only see it on my panties at the end of the day.... I've just assumed it's part of the healing process, i've had no fevers, etc.
Uterus, ovaries and fallopian tubes removed. I kept my cervix. I don't know if anyone van understand this but i didn't want to feel that "open" to the world.

Vaginal discharge!?!

I assume you're talking about discharge from the vagina and not discharge from the incision site. I'm still having the yellowy discharge from vagina. Some days quite a lot. I asked the DR and she said it is not uncommon to bleed and/or have yellow discharge for up to 12 weeks. She said it can take up to 6 months for all the stitches to dissolve. If you're having yellow discharge from the incision site, I would call the DR.

Vaginal discharge!?!

I will be 5 wks. post op tomorrow and i have had the yellow discharge for about 3 wks. I asked my Dr about it and he said it's a healing discharge and not to worry about it. I forgot to ask him how long it last. I still also have a discharge of old blood, but he said that's normal too. Good luck to you all.

Vaginal discharge!?!

Hi,

We're all different of course and you need to give your doctor a call. At week 3 discharge started with me and got worse with time. I was on the net complaining about it with others. We wondered what was normal. Having to wear a panty liner was the biggest complaint for me. Finally ended up at the doctor's office. I asked the same question. What is normal?

My doctor did an exam and said I had granulation. It causes discharge, as well as other things such as disolving stitches that irritate, and of course infection...so it's best to get it checked.

In answer to my question though my doctor said a healthy vagina should have a discharge. The vagina needs to regenerate (replace) tissue and the old tissue needs to shed. This is done at individual rates. So, the amount you see will vary from woman to woman. Other things can alter discharge, medications, activity, hormones and age. Her comment was if you don't have any discharge you need to be concerned about the condition of the vagina perhaps showing signs of atrophy due to lack of hormone.

Bottom line was, no discharge should be thick, colored, with ordor or any other symptoms like itch or burn. You won't know what's normal for you until you're all healed up.

Vaginal discharge!?!

Thank you so much! The thing is, the incision site is up the vagina, and I can't see it...my abdominal wound is fine, no discharge, only one area is slightly red, and I've been applying Polysporin just the be on the safe side. The discharge is pretty much as described...I see it in my underwear at the end of the day, no foul odor, etc...I find that there are so many questions that I didn't think of when I had the doctor at my disposal, and since he's out of town and I won't be seeing him until my 6 week check up, I'm having to search everywhere for the answers. To tell you the truth, some of it is pretty hard to find, and very nonspecific..have even looked in my nursing texts and come up empty!

Vaginal discharge!?!

Right cindy, the inside of the vagina has an incision, that area is called the vaginal cuff. The stitches there begin to disolve around week 2-3 and can take from 4-8 weeks to be completely gone. Sometimes those stitches can poke around and irritate the tissue causing some discharge.

I think ashley just wanted to make sure you were talking about the vaginal cuff and not the abdominal incision.

You just keep asking and we can give you our experience. If you are ever really concerned about your condition give your office a call. There should always be a nurse in the office who can answer you or a physician on call. I've researched aot too on the net and in books, but this site has alot of info in it's research forum (home page). This site is awesome.
