Uh, oh, the crying has started

I am 10 days post op and the crying has started. I cry at everything! But, honestly, I cried at commercials before, but now I can't control it at all. Luckily, I live with my mom, who has had a hysterectomy, as well as my husband and daughter, who is almost 6, and they aren't super shocked, but I know this is just the beginning. It actually feels a lot like pregnancy. So, I am sort of clueless, but super curious; what is the biology behind this? I had a total hysterectomy, nothing is left. I was given the shot (lasts 30 days) and am already on Zoloft- suffered from depression my whole life, made worse by a stillbirth (baby was 5 months) and had post parton with both pregnancies. By the way, I am well supported in my home and on the outside, I have a fantastic friend network, so I am not in need of urgent care, just want to know how much of this is normal because of hyst. And what the biology of it all is. That helps me not to worry that I'm crazy. Thanks. Yikes, this got really personal sorry.

Re: Uh, oh, the crying has started

From what I know, your body is going through estrogen withdrawal. Mine lasted about 3-4 weeks. I described it to people like withdraw from a street drug!! In about 6- 8 weeks you will be totally bottomed out and know where your emotions stand. I stopped crying and now at 9 weeks feel very flat..neither happy nor sad , just right in the middle. Good luck and stay away from the tear jerking Hallmark Channel!!

Re: Uh, oh, the crying has started

I was really surprised by the weepiness after my hysterectomy. I cried one day because I spilled water on the floor and couldn't bend to wipe it up . It is fairly common and usually resolves. This article on crying after hysterectomy may help explain why. in there.
