Has anyone had any change in migraines post surgery

I was a severe migraine sufferer--I have been on 3 or 4 different meds for my migraines and would usually end up in the ER for the cocktail shot or end up vomiting violently because of them. They would last for days-sometimes weeks- with no relief. When they did go away, I would only get a day or 2 before they came back. Had my LAVH on 3/11 and no migraine since--hope it stays that way. Good luck to you.

My TAH (kept ovaries) was 12/7/04 and, like many of the other ladies here, I've had NO migraines since!! I've had a couple bad sinus headaches...but no migraines!!!!

Has anyone had any change in migraines post surgery

I always had migraines around my period before my surgery and since my TAH/BSO on February 23rd, I've had two migraines but they weren't nearly as bad as they used to be. Maybe HRT or natural hormonal replacemenet will be the key for me as they are a bit scary at times!

Has anyone had any change in migraines post surgery

I too have suffered horrible migraines since childhood. Before my TVH I had them very infrequently, but after, I have noticed that I am getting them more than in past years. I believe the only thing now that is causing them to occur more often is stress. I had complications with my TVH, and I believe all my worry is the biggest cause. On the lighter side, they are not as horrible as they used to be, and I can get rid of them most of the time with a pot of coffee and over the counter pain meds, unlike before, when I had days that I ended up in the ER for the pain. So, all in all, more frequent, less severe. That is a perfectly fine trade off for me. I hope you never have another migraine after this, I almost wouldn't wish a migraine on my worst enemy...
Good luck with everything!

Esue,

Chocolate (especially Gheredelli chocolate, my favorite) often does trigger some of my migraines. But then sometimes (like this morning) I'll have a really severe one, and I haven't had chocolate in a week. I've tried writing down the foods I eat to see if there's some sort of pattern, but there doesn't seem to be a connect with anything except chocolate - and there are times I can eat chocolate, and it doesn't do anything!

**sigh** Guess it's just one of those things!

s,

Lisa

Thank you to everyone who has been responding to this thread.
It has made me stronger in my resolve to go ahead with the surgery which I know physically I must do but still just have that scared feeling about. I just put my mind on what would a life without migraines be like and I can't help but smile.
You go to work everyday..... When your daughter wants to go to the mall you can go along because you don't need to lie down in the dark..........please keep posting your experiances I find them all interesting and helpful as I am sure the other migraine sufferers do. Thank you.
Surgery on the 11th. Think of me then. Judy

I had severe migrains as well. They would start 24-48 hours before my period. I never liketaking pain medication in the past and since I started these migrains I was taking anything. The only that I could get some releif is to take a Tylenol 3 with codeine and the go to sleep and hope not to wakeup with it.
I had a Hysterectomy approximetly 2.5 weeks ago. Lsast night I had a little headache but nothing compaired to the blasters that I had in the past. Looking at my cylce I would have been starting in the next two days. But I'm not..............Yahoo!l

woo hoo

I am dealing w/period as i type, i too have had SEVERE migraines been going on for bout 3 yrs now all period related. The last period at beginning of March was soo bad that I cried for 3 days. The Zomig wouldnt even work. If that wasnt bad enuf the insurance only pays for 3 tabs and i overexceeded limit...cost me 80.00.

I really feel bad for those w/no insurance but am blessed i have it.

OTOH, IF what I am reading is true in my case, I'd be running up and steps yelling to DH also, no mo migraines.

The more i read, the more hopeful i get.

thanks ladies.

I had migraines the week before my period, and then for the 5 days I was on my period. I had my hyst. almost a year ago. I'm on HRT. I still get the migaines at least once a week for 2 to 3 days. I take 3 types of meds. THey help ease the pain, but the headache has to run its course. My doctor has change my dosage of the HRT, I had a blood test a couple of weeks ago, my estroegen level were real low. She change the dosage again. I think maybe it will get better. I get the migraines so bad I get real sick and throw up, I'm in bed for a couple of days. Hope we all get relief from the migraines.

I too suffered migraines. I was taking Imitrex injections when needed.
I had a TAH & LSO in 8/04. Since surgery I may have a mild headache due to low blood sugar. I will eat something and take an Advil and all is well. I have had NO migraines since surgery. The headaches I now have are just that, headaches, not at all to be compared to the migraines that I would have. The worse being for 3 days in a row and having to go to the doctor's office each day. Day 1 - I was put on Imitrex pill - nothing. Day 2 - Doubled the dosage of Imitrex pill and given shot for pain - nothing. Day 3 - Imitrex Injection and shot for pain - relief. Thereafter, the Imitrex injection was the ONLY thing that worked for me.
I wish you luck with your surgery and certainly hope you will be able to tell a big difference afterwards.
Keep us posted.
