Is a hysterectomy similar to C-section pain?
I am wondering if the recovery is about the same. I'm really scared about my upcoming surgery on the 31st. Any advice is appreciated!

Re: Is a hysterectomy similar to C-section pain?
It is similar but also different I had 3 c- section and other abdominal surgeries. This one was by far the hardest for me. The outer incision healed great and within a week it didn't hurt. It was my insides that were sore and tender. A heating pad was wonderful!! A binder is great also. I was given one by the hospital. Have stool softners and a mild laxative handy try to get your pain meds filled before you leave the hospital Gax x is good for gas. and rest and relax This is a major surgery where some if not all of your lady parts are being removed. Healing from this surgery Hun takes time and it is very important to listen to your doctor and follow his instructions and restrictions You will be okay. Some ladies bounce rite back while others need more TLC. Everyone heals at a different pace. I am at 7 months post op and I feel wonderful.

Re: Is a hysterectomy similar to C-section pain?
I had 2 c-sections 26 and 20 years ago and I'm 55 now. The incision pain I would say is about the same intensity but the internal pain is lasting much longer and the fatigue has been greater. You have to bear in mind my age now balanced against being much younger but dealing with a newborn. I would say based on my own personal experience and reading the posts on here, the hyst takes much longer to bounce back from. I'm getting frustrated at the pace but coming up to 6 weeks, I'm getting there!
It's ok to be scared, this is a big surgery but you will get through this and life will be better on the other side. I knew this wouldn't be a walk in the park but I'm confident that my life will be much improved once I am healed and yours will too. Take your healing one day at a time and be patient. I wish you well with your surgery and your recovery. You will get plenty of support and help here. Keep us posted!

Re: Is a hysterectomy similar to C-section pain?
I haven't had a C section but I had a TAH 10 wks ago. Yes it hurts for a while when you first wake up and when you try to move and stuff bit it's pretty controlled with the pain meds. I was walking around on the second day and could shower by myself without it hurting too much. You will be just fine! I was scared too but honestly it' s not that bad.
When you go home rest and enjoy the quiet time you have to heal.
All the best for your surgery

Re: Is a hysterectomy similar to C-section pain?
Being anxious before surgery is normal & l went through my own set of doubts pre-surgery, 8 weeks ago.
My TAH was my fourth abdominal surgery in 19 years: I had a myomectomy to remove uterine fibroids & an ovarian cyst when l was 27; at 38 & 39 years of age, l had my 2 c-sections & at 47 l had my TAH.
To me, it is the duration of time required for total healing to take place that makes c-sections & a TAH different. With both c-sections, l was back on my feet by week 6 & able to resume my normal everyday activities. With the TAH, although l understand that everyone's healing experience is different, l can tell you that by the end of week 3, l was relatively pain free but adhered strictly to the set restrictions imposed on me by the surgery. However, when l overdid it, l experienced (& still experience) what l can best describe as internal pulling & tugging along the incision line. When this happens, you need to listen to your body & rest. At my 6 week post-op appointment, my gynaecologist told me that l will feel really good at the 3 month stage & "fantastic" in 6 months!
Hope my experience has helped you a little. Good luck with your surgery. Wishing you a speedy & pain-free recovery.

Re: Is a hysterectomy similar to C-section pain?
I agree with Janliz. I have had a c section and I am on week 4 of my TAH and I think it hurts more. I usually heal real fast and this time I frustrated. Can't do much at all. Still have pain and swelling. I also had caught a cold so I was coughing. But really it depends on the person and how well you take care I yourself. Rest and just take many breaks no matter how you feel. I learned the hard way.

Re: Is a hysterectomy similar to C-section pain?
After my 4 c-sections I was up and about after 3 weeks. With my hysterectomy I was still quite sore after 3 weeks and didn't feel fully recovered until week 8 or 9. I was very tired and couldn't be on my feet for long until then. Of course, I have 4 kids keeping me hopping!
