Uti and Seroma--yay me

Was at doc's and hospital again today.
Long story. I'll post more later.
I have a pocket of fluid in my pelvis--near my intestine--so close the doc at hospital wouldn't even take a sample to test for infection.
I'm in such pain and I can't believe how quickly this is turning into a nightmare.

Question about pelvic seroma

Has anyone had a seroma in their pelvis? (Not part of their abdominal incision?)
I'm trying to search on seromas and all I'm coming up with is incisional seromas.
Its near my bowel and basically Ive been told to leave it, it should reabsorb.

Anyone experience this?

Re: Question about pelvic seroma

Now, my surgeon is going to be sending me to a specialist to drain the seroma/hematoma?
I'm so scared. Why is this recovery turning into a nightmare?

Re: Question about pelvic seroma

I don't know a whole lot about them but I too have a "collection of fluid or a mass" that was found last week. Had been having a ton of pelvic pain and nausea. I was started on 2 antibiotics and am going for a repeat ultrasound today. Still not feeling well. They said if the antibiotics don't help it will have to be drained.
I am also very scared and frustrated at the length of time recovery is taking. I am saying a prayer for both of us that this turns out okay.
Did they tell you to keep an eye on your temperature? I was told to get back to the hospital right away if my temp went up.
Let me know what happens and what your specialist says.

Re: Question about pelvic seroma

Trish, I'm so sorry you're going through this too.
I am also keeping an eye on my temp. I also have a uti, so I can't seem to get away from this pain and worry.
Let me know how your ultrasound goes. Do you remember how big they said your collection/mass is? Mine is 4 cm.
Keep me posted and take care sister.

Re: Question about pelvic seroma

Well, the ultrasound DIDN'T go! I am so ticked right now. Doc called this afternoon and said they couldn't do it till Wednesday! He had told me that he would set it up for me for today. We are starting a long weekend so if I get worse on the weekend I am to go to emerg and they will deal with it. I guess I'll just keep taking the pain meds and trying to rest. I'm kinda scared that I'll do something to make it burst.
He didn't tell me how big mine was so I have no idea. They just really stressed that if I got a temp I was to go to the hospital right away. I have been having this pain since the second week so curious as to how fast it grows.
What are you taking for pain meds? I find sometimes that Tylenol helps and sometimes I need stronger. Did they give you any idea how long before you'll start to feel better? I'm supposed to go back to work next week and can't even take care of my kids yet!!

Re: Question about pelvic seroma

Trish. I can completely relate!!!
I'm alternating now between anti-inflammatories and dilaudid (which I hate the way it makes me feel, but does take edge off).
I have kids also, and even with my dh stepping up and taking care of almost everything, I still can't even handle my household.
As of yesterday, I was told it was too small to drain and in a location that's too risky. I was also told there is a risk of infection in draining it...my body should absorb it. I wasn't told how long. I was hoping someone on here could tell us.
I was cleared to take baths, and told moist heat on the effected area should help speed up absorption process. I'm also looking into alternative meds. Has anyone heard of arnica tablets or wobenzym (systemic enzymes?

And how do we know this is a seroma as compared to hematoma. Seroma was mentioned, but like you they just said I had fluid in my pelvis measuring about 4 cm.

Hang in there Trish.

Re: Uti and Seroma--yay me

Hi Kari,
Sorry I kind of dropped off the planet for a bit but I had a horrible week and a half. Had my ultrasound done last Wednesday and was called the next day and told nothing had changed and I am now to go for a CT tomorrow to see what we are dealing with. They have never told me the actually size of the hematoma and I keep forgetting to ask. I'll have to do that. This last ultrasound report said possible hematoma, possible abscess, possible mass so I can't wait to find out what it really is.
Are you feeling any better? I have been thinking about you a lot. Any more answers for you?
Keep in touch.

Re: Uti and Seroma--yay me

Trish,
I've been thinking about you!! Sorry you've had a bad week
I actually landed back in the castle a week ago Sunday (for 3 days). Increased pain and I was running low grade fever. Another u/s and cat scan. At first they said 'it' was bigger, going to drain..then they said, no, same size...still too hard to get to. I was placed on IV antibiotics in case it was an abscess. I've been home on oral antibiotics, no fever, still plugging along. I have another u/s tomorrow to check on size.
Unless it grows bigger or I show signs of infection, the plan is to let it absorb on it's own.

PLEASE let me know how your cat scan goes. I'm so glad you checked in. We'll get thru this. Please feel free to email me anytime, k?

Re: Uti and Seroma--yay me

I was dx with a hematoma over about 6 weeks ago. I was told it was the size of a orange.

I was wondering if you are experiencing lower back pain/pelvic pain/pain that goes down your legs. I have had this pain for weeks now, but it seems to be getting worse in the last week or so. It is much more uncomfortable when i am sitting or laying down. It is enough to wake me up at night and keep me from sleeping. Not sure if this means anything, but i have had lose stools and diarrhea for WEEKS now. NO Fever, but have had a headache for the last several days! When will this end!!

I am a little upset with my doctor. Went for my 6 week check up, she she "felt it" and said "wow i think it is shrinking".

Really?? You THINK?

But doesn't want to do a ultrasound for another 6 weeks to check if it has shrunk. Which doesn't make sense to me at all!
