Interesting observation regarding night sweats
I have been having night sweats since surgery and some prior to my hyst. However, due to the ongoing insomnia, I have discovered I am fine all night until about 4am. That is when I start with the night sweats...and horrible dreams!!! I go on like this (waking myself up due to stickiness and yelling out in my dreams) until around 5:30 or so...then can get back to sleep again and I am fine. Has anyone else noticed bad dreams during night sweats??? Or am I just insane!!

Interesting observation regarding night sweats
I have been doing the same thing since the first week of my TAH. They left 1/2 of an ovary for estrogen because I cannot take hormones due to blood clots. I wake up 3 or 4 times a night to pee and wake up dripping in sweat with wet clothes from the night sweats. I average about a good 2-3 hrs. of sleep a night. I go back to work on 2-6-06 and pray this ends soon or I will be a walking zombie when I go back to work! I have even taken a shower in the middle of the night because the sweats are so bad! Anybody have any ideas on how to cure this? Or anything to take to get a good nights sleep?

Interesting observation regarding night sweats
I get night sweats, too. They started about a week after I was home from the castle. I thought it was the pain pills. But I stopped the pain pills and the sweats continue. They seem to be getting shorter each night, but it is always about 2 hours after I've gone to sleep, then I have to get up, change nightgowns, and then I'm fine for the rest of the night. I had a TAH, and am not on any hormone replacement. The only other time I had night sweats like this was after delivering both babies. (That was a long time ago!!) Children are now 19 and 22. No bad dreams with the sweats. But it is a nuisance to get up and change. Last night was not as bad a previous nights. The sweats woke me up, but before I was as drenched as usual. It seems as soon as I wake up, it goes away. Strange??

Interesting observation regarding night sweats
Sorry to hear, and No you're not alone! This seems to be a rather common issue. I know I, as well as many others on this site have experienced the same problems. I no longer have the night sweats because my Hrt seems to have finally kicked in. My DR gave me ambein for the insomnia so I can get to sleep without all of the issues there. I do still (when I remember them) have some really weird dreams though. I try every couple of days to get a nights sleep without the sleep aid but almost always end up having to take a xanax. I too hope this ends soon, the last thing I want to deal with now is a drug addiction.

Interesting observation regarding night sweats
Was working on my 4th year of menapause when I was notified I needed a TAH so I'm a bit of an expert on nightsweats and hot flashes.
Nightsweats seem to be worse in the winter time (windows are closed, blankets on bed) so try to make sure your room is cool. (A savings on heating bills anyway! (G)) The other three seasons are fine (except for the hot flashes!
I do better with nightgowns than pjs. They are cooler. I always keep a spare at the foot of the bed. It usually hits me around 3 am.
Never had trouble with nightmares although my dreaming seems to be more "vivid"?! Weird stuff hormones.

Interesting observation regarding night sweats
I agree with dlharvard about keeping your bedroom cool - I've found that if I can keep my head, neck and upper chest cool, I seem to have less night sweating.
Tlcreese - I also occasionally have the urinary frequency issue, which also seems to relate sometimes to sweats. I try not to drink anything after 6 p.m. but get at least 2 litres of water into me during the day. I also finally got a sleeping pill from my GYN which really helps me get good quality sleep without hangover or bad dreams. Since I started using RePlens as a vaginal moisturiser - I don't take HRT due to cancer, nor herbs due to liver reaction - I have less bladder "irritation" which lessens the number of times I have to get up in the night. Also, your part ovary may still be "asleep" from the shock of surgery. I had all sorts of weird fluctuations in my meno symptoms for a couple of months post-op, even though I had been in menopause for 4 years....
I wonder if the time of night the sweats come is related to the body clock or our REM sleep stage????
