Facing Endometrial Biopsy
Just got off the phone w/dr. She has my ultrasound results. There were definitely fibroids in there, several of them, although they are small, grape sized. The uterus itself is moderately sized. But, there was a thickening of the endometrium, and now I have to have a endometrial biopsy done to rule out any cancer cells. She says that it's highly unlikely, and I believe that, but just was not ready for that information. I have these tears that are just there under the surface. I mean, I really believe in my heart, that everything is fine----but just hearing your dr say those words to you---it just hits you in the gut. I know you guys know what I mean.
But, now, for the best part----she's going out of town for 2 wks, and I have to see another dr for this biopsy. I'm not real thrilled about that, but I don't want to wait either, because my surgery is only 2 1/2 wks away!! So far, surgery is still on.
Okay, I just needed to get that off my chest. Thanks for listening.

Facing Endometrial Biopsy
Oh Empress - How I feel for you! A thickening of the endometrium can mean also mean adenomyosis. You may already know this, but this is a form of endometriosis where the endometrium bleeds into itself, enlarging the uterus, and often causing a lot of pain. The only real "cure" for adeno is a hyst. Since you are getting one anyway, you may have nothing more to worry about, and it might explain any severe pain you've been having. So, please don't think the worst. Wait for the results and try not to make yourself crazy. I know - easier said than done.
And go ahead and CRY! What's this about keeping it in??

Facing Endometrial Biopsy
Hi Empress,
I do know how you feel, everything snowballed for me after simply asking to go on the pill hoping it would lessen the bleeding and pain, when the bleeding increased I had an internal and external ultrasound. I went for the endometrial biopsy but they could not get a sample, I now know a fibroid fills my uterus and blocks the opening. My doctor sent me to a specialist saying I needed further testing for endometrial cancer as she was not comfortable with me *not* being tested. I spent some time in shock and very scared but the 4 week wait to see the specialist gave me time to realize that me stressing out will not change a thing and I was able to start functioning again. The new doctor thinks I am young for cancer and just did a sonohystogram to get a better look at things and has decided I need a hysterectomy, she never mentioned the thickening of the uterus but I will ask next week at my pre-op, as the surgery news caught me off guard and I didn't ask any other questions. Six months ago I thought all this pain and bleeding was normal and just a sign of me getting older.

Facing Endometrial Biopsy
:Hugs: Empress ~
I was very worried over my biopsy too. Just the thought of possibly having cancer was so scarey. My endometrium is thickened also and my biopsy came back perfectly normal. I'm sure yours will too.
Hang in there Sweetie - we're all here for you.
Love & Hugs,
Michelle

Facing Endometrial Biopsy
Thank you Esme and DawnP for your replies. The dr's office called me back w/my appt time. I go in next Tues 6/1 @ 9:50 for the biopsy, and then my hysterectomy class is @ 3pm in the same place. The dr ofc/hospital is about 20 miles away from my house, and w/the cost of gas, I think I'll just stay in the area, maybe go see a movie in between appts. Think I'll feel up to that?? I've read some of the threads about the biopsy and some people have a really tough time w/it, and others don't. I've had 4 kids w/natural childbirth----surely I can get through this, huh??

Facing Endometrial Biopsy
Hi Again -
You should be fine to go see a movie.
About 2 hours after my biopsy I went to a school music recital and sat for about 2 hours (in a metal chair).
I will be thinking of you & sending good thoughts your way.
Love,
Michelle

I also had the thickening and had to have the biopsy. I too was scared of the chance of cancer but thank God it wasn't. Just take a couple of extra strength tylenol before you go. Take care and I'll be praying for you . Had a TAH/BSO on 5/11 and was home on the13th. Went to church on the 16th. Hope you do just as well.

Facing Endometrial Biopsy
Try not to worry too much about the biopsy. My doctor says it's pretty much policy at my HMO to do an endometrial biopsy whenever there is unusual bleeding. especially on women over 35. The biopsy, while being pretty uncomfortable is nothing you can't stand and it only takes literally a few seconds....well, I mean the pain part is only a few seconds. I had some nasty cramping afterward both times but I had them both at unexpected times so I hadn't taken anything beforehand for the pain. If I were going in for another one I would take tylenol #3 or vicodin. (can't take motrin or anaprox close to surgery and plain tylenol does nothing for me) Good luck with your biopsy......it will all be fine

Positive Thoughts
Empressnormi ~ In my life I have had two cancer "scares." The first was in my early twenties when I had an abnormal pap and they scared the ?&#$! out of me by talking about "dysplasia" and "cancer." The second was a few years later when they were telling me they thought I might have a tumor in my pituitary (yeah, as in brain). It turned out I had neither. I think they feel inclined to tell you the worst case scenario, when that's usually not the case. I'll hold you in my thoughts and prayers.

I read your post and had to laugh I was worried about endometrial biopsy - I have had 4 babies by natural childbirth also and trust me after that you won't feel a thing - trust me on this one! I was so busy talking to the doctors wife I didnt even know he had done it - lol!!
Really after childbirth you are a lot less 'sensitive' to things I had no cramping or spotting afterwards. I was also told that it was a routine test for all women pointed hystward over the age of 35.
So dont worry me dear you can handle it - remember you have 4 proofs of that running around you!
