Worried and anxious

I have been reading these posts since September when I had my Lap done and the option of having a hysterectomy was given to me. My first thought was "no way", I just couldn't even think of having a hysterectomy. Then a couple of months passed and the pain remained and I thought this could all be over. I made an appointment with the doc in November and we had it sceduled for January 3. At that time it seemed so far a way. Now it is so close!! I am very anxious and worried at the same time. Anxious to have it done so that I can feel better, but worried about the coulds and the mights. I have been very emotional and I feel like my brain is just not functioning correctly. I cannot seem to get into Christmas this year and feel really bad about that. Looking forward to having it all taken care of and having no worries. Have a wonderful holiday season and thank you to all of you!!! Laura

Worried and anxious

Laura - Pre-op is very scary and very emotional. We've all been through that. I constantly worried about the "what ifs" but never once thought about - what if everything turns out ok and I feel wonderful...which is exactly what happened. The wait is the worst part. Soon you'll be totally focused on recovery. We'll be here with you every step of the way.

Worried and anxious

Hi Laura,

Poor you! I had been in total cluelessness since April. I thought I had thrown out my back and had been going to chiropractors and an acupuncturist (she did help) all the way until October. Then when the gynecologoist told me what the problem was ans within weeks everything had been scheduled. I, like you, felt that when I was diagnosed that it was so overwhelming, and I couldn't function anymore. And everything I had read on the Internet was scary (this place is not scary at all. It is actually quite comforting!), so I was terrified of having a hysterectomy. I think the anticipation is the worst part. You will just take one day at a time like the rest of us.

WHen the day comes, you'll be happy that it's there and you'll apprectiate the morphine :-) and the attention from the nurses and everyone else. Do the things you love and what you know will calm you down.

Best Wishes!

Emily

Worried and anxious

Larjane, I wanted to give this to you as a kind of Christmas present to help with your anxiety. Remember, my story is only my story, and everyone is different.
I had my TAH with one ovary removed and appendectomy on 11/21. I had put it off for FIVE YEARS, because I type medical reports and knew all the gruesome "what if's." This is how my surgery and recovery went:
Had thecal block (kind of a spinal) anesthesia for surgery, so I was up and walking the next day with NO PAIN. No bladder problems, no bowel problems, no gas problems (because I had brought Phazyme to the hospital and took a pill even with my saltine crackers). Had private room at no extra charge. Had the most loving, funny nurses. Came home on day two. Belly a little swollen, -- more with activity, flat when resting. This has gone down progressively. I work from home, and after 6 days started working part-time, at 10 days started working full-time, at 3 weeks went out dancing and then to breakfast at 1 a.m. Felt great, looked better than I had in a long time. I know this horrifies a lot of people, but I would have gotten really depressed to stay in my PJ's for 6 weeks and lay on the couch. So, I watched myself carefully for soreness or problems. I am almost five weeks postop now and I feel back to normal. There is still healing because my belly still goes up and down and I have twinges sometimes around the incision. But, I have to tell you that I have had PMS that was worse than any of this. I really had a lot of people praying for me, and I will say a prayer for you. Just don't be scared, and enjoy your holiday. It is a time to slow down and reevaluate your life and let people love you. Wishing you all the best, Dawn

In the same boat!

Dear Laura, there are several of us scheduled for Jan. 3. I just found this site a few days ago, and these ladies have helped me so much. I too am nervous, because I have never had major surgery before. Just want to let you know that there will be others "holding hands" with you on the same day. Also, I know alot of prayers will be said too. Good Luck, and see you after our coronation! Luwona
