I used to say "Stupid should hurt"...

I'm eating those words now.
My son got a little push car for his birthday. My mom wanted me to push him in it. I said I couldn't and she glared at me and said it couldn't hurt me. Well, I have been in bed all evening since the party. I am in terrible pain and the pills aren't helping. I am 2.5 weeks out. Should I call my doctor?

overdoing it

Man, I'm guilty of pushing myself too much too .... Last Saturday I did a laundry marathon & I paid so hard, so this weekend I did none & made sure to tell my dh that my tummy is still healing & that I'm spotting. I would definitely touch base with your dr if your pain pills aren't helping! I called my dr several times, so concerned about pain lasting for so long. I was paranoid about looking like a pill seeker, but I was in legitimate pain & asked for more percocet. He didn't have a problem with it, just gradually lowered the dosage to avoid me getting hooked.

Here's a reminder of the things princesses are allowed/not allowed to do after surgery:

What is Allowed? Not Allowed?

Allowed

Picking up pillows and repositioning them-allowed
Turning on dishwasher AFTER SOMEONE ELSE HAS LOADED IT-allowed
Changing roll of toilet paper-allowed
Flipping on lightswitch-allowed
Folding laundry-allowed
Taking short, easy walks and gentle stretching-allowed
Lifting the remote control-allowed
Asking others for help-allowed and encouraged
Not Allowed

Vacuuming-NOT ALLOWED
Sweeping or Mopping-NOT ALLOWED
Carrying laundry across house to washer-NOT ALLOWED
Lifting, Bending, Reaching, Driving-NOT ALLOWED
Lying around the house all day doing nothing-NOT ALLOWED (see above)
Bending to access oven or empty litterboxes-NOT ALLOWED
Going to Wal-Mart for some bargain shopping-NOT RECOMMENDED
Pushing a shopping cart-NOT ALLOWED
Sitting for prolonged periods of time i.e. at computer-NOT ALLOWED
Opening windows, particularly the hard-to-open ones-NOT ALLOWED
Making other people's problems your own-NOT ALLOWED
Picking Tomatoes, Weeding, and other such nonsense-NOT ALLOWED

Baby yourself for awhile - this healing process takes a long time & I soo relate to people not understanding.... it's so frustrating.

Pushing and pulling really seem to give me the ouchies too. Something as simple as trying to pull too much wet laundry out at a time or even pushing one of the apple corers through an apple (that one was really bad...imagine being beat up by an apple!) really hurt the tummy. Guess we live and learn. Hope you are feeling better soon. (When they glare at you expecting more just give them a half smile and shrug....we only get one chance to heal....keep telling myself, too)
Blessings,
Beth

I used to say "Stupid should hurt"...

Unsympathetic people aggravate me! We HAVE to protect our healing, even if the persons around us have had a hyster. No one heals the same, and even if you're feeling great, it's very easy to overdo it and not realize it until it's much too late.

Yesterday, my mother was sweet enough to 'pass on' some of her older, more collectible books from her library...I got a total of nine file boxes FULL of tomes dating to the mid-1800's. Those things are extremely heavy.

After Mom and my two kids had packed everything, my husband came into the room to start getting the boxes into the van. I went to pick up a box, and my mother (who is an LPN and who had a TAH in June of 1973) gave me an evil look and said, "Don't you dare pick that up! You'll hurt yourself!" Being the ever-compliant daughter, I took my hands off the box. Meanwhile, their Bassett hound, Jake, had to be restrained while the front door was open. Mom asked me to restrain him...Wouldn't hurt me, right?

WRONG! Even though I'm six weeks through an LAVH and feel pretty awesome, I didn't count on that dog being as strong as he was. Bassetts, I learned the hard way, are SOLID muscle and weigh a LOT more than I thought...Jake weighs upwards to 60 lbs. Try keeping a handle on THAT when he's struggling to go outside! I would have damaged myself less by carrying the darned boxes.

After about 30 seconds of holding that wriggling, struggling mass of puppy-excitement by the collar, I must have turned grey. Next thing I knew, I HAD to sit down. My mom hurried over and grabbed the dog as she apologized profusely. Neither of us thought a dog would hurt me.

By the time my DH was through carrying the boxes, I was on the settee and trying desperately not to fall asleep as I held my belly. Just holding a DOG made me feel like I'd just run 3 miles. If you want true embarrassment, try admitting that the family dog, which stands all of 1.5 feet tall, beat you in a battle of wills!

And let's just say that this morning, my abdominal muscles are feeling the strain. OUCH!

Any new or continuing pain should always be reported to your doctor. Please call your doctor right away and tell them how you are feeling.
