Bladder Spasms bloating after hysterectomy

Hi ladies I'm a week and 2 days post op. I'm still having low grade temps weak and tired. Also having weird lower abdomen feelings numb, swelling and when I pee my bladder hurts before and after urination. It also feels like my pee stops and starts again. Also I'm having constipation problems that I'm sure aren't helping

I have a post op apt Tuesday. I had a subcervical hysterectomy leaving my right ovary. Is all this normal?

Re: Bladder Spasms bloating after hysterectomy

dear sister, and I'm so sorry that you're experiencing bladder pain. It can really smart and can also give the blues. Since your surgery is so recent, I'd really urge that you rule out a UTI by checking with your doctor, just to be on the safe side. It could, of course, be bladder spasms; but, unfortunately, many women develop UTIs after the catheterization, surgery, etc. This can happen even with the best of surgeons.

Otherwise, as one who has negotiated IC for a couple decades, I can also share some things that have helped me, including drinking plenty of water and choosing bladder-friendly foods (avoiding caffeine—and not just coffee and tea but dark chocolate [sob], plus alcohol, citrus, vinegar, tomatoes, acidic/heavily processed/salty foods, carbonated beverages…. all the fun stuff)!

And, if you've not yet checked out these resources, both are terrific (even if you don't suffer from IC, as I do): there are excellent recommendations about diet, e.g., which can really improve the experience of bladder symptoms.
