Post Op abdominal pain

Since my hysterectomy surgery last April 2011, I get severe gas pains most of the time when I need to have a bowel movement. I usually get them in the lower left hand side of my abdomen and they go away after a bowel movement. They are so severe sometimes that it will stop me in my tracks and I'll have to apply pressure in that area to minimize the pain. It doesn't happen all the time, but enough for me to wonder what's going on. Has anyone else had this problem? I never had this issue before surgery.

NOJSC4U -

I am sorry to hear you are having this issue since your surgery.

If it isn't everytime maybe keep a food diary and see if there is a particular type of food that is triggering the reaction. Otherwise you may want to talk to your GP about it or a gastroenterologist.

I know some say that as you get older your digestion changes and you can be more gaseous. I know I have it more now than before surgery.
