Knock, Knock! It's Lovenox!
I don't know why the word love is in Lovenox because I don't find that stuff loving at all, LOL! It's a twice a day shot of blood thinning meds.
Have any of you other ladies been on this and did it give you any problems during or after? Just wondering...

Re: Knock, Knock! It's Lovenox!
If you don't mind my asking, do you have unusually thick blood? I'm just a bit baffled as to why your doc still wants you on a blood thinner after almost three weeks. I was given heparin shots while I was in the hospital and also had compression stockings, but that was only for the three days I was in the hospital. After that my doc seemed to assume that I'd be moving around enough to prevent any blood clots from forming.

I don't know why, they just wanted me on it for 30 days. I know my veins are really hard to stick, and I'm overweight. Also I think they said something about it being because it was such a large incision. My incision is about 14 inches long because my uterus was so enlarged and they also did a whole bunch of biopsies and removed lymph nodes.

If there's a contest being held for most impressive incision, I think you should enter. I thought mine was impressive at only 7"! *grin* I had lymph nodes removed, too - I never did find out how many.
Re: veins being hard to stick, when I lived in the States, I was told I had hard-to-stick veins. Doctors, nurses, medical technicians, no one seemed to be able to get blood out of me. Then I immigrated to Canada, and suddenly everyone was telling me how great my veins were and taking blood samples with no problems! I've always been about the same weight, so not's the cause. I've never been able to figure it out!

Wow! SophranoDiva, your incision beats mine which is about 12". I had to do the shots once a day for 28 days and was given one each day in the hospital starting the day after surgery. My biggest problem was my aversion to needles, even though the stick is not that bad. As far as any physical issues, some bruising at some of the injection sites was my worst issue.

Re: Knock, Knock! It's Lovenox!
I too was only on the heparin while in the hospital (Wednesday-Sunday) with the compression stocking/massager pumps. My incision is quite large (haven't measured, but sternum to groin with a curve towards my right hip, my belly button is about 5 inches to the right, and no longer centered).. Although pre-op I was told there's always a chance of going home with the injections, I think it depends on what your "D-dimers" look like on your blood work. Which shows if you have a risk of blood clots. But you are right, those things are painful!! Hopefully you won't have them too much longer. I cringed when they would come in and lift my binder to stick me.

Lift your binder?! I was getting my injections on my arm, in my deltoid muscle.

I do mine in my belly and one of them gave me a big knot under the skin, which thankfully the Dr said was normal.

I have another knot or two now on my right side of my belly. I'm realllllly hoping they're just from the Lovenox.

Hugs. I know they suck. I was given something along that line for the 4 days in the hospital but thankfully did not have to do them at home. Besides huge bruises that took forever to go away I didn't have any issues.
