2 weeks preop and scared

I totally empathize.

I spent two weeks reading everything I could find, asking questions on this site, asking all my friends about their experiences. I have 3 friends who are nurses and I must have driven them crazy with my questions and fears.

Then - my surgery date got postponed because I was ill.

First thing I thought was that the Universe was trying to tell me something. That I should not have the surgery at all. Or that I was having the wrong type of surgery. What if...

So I contacted some of the wonderful ladies that I had become cyberfriends with on this site. They all survived! They are all recovering well. They are coping. Every single one has told me that it wasn't nearly as bad as they expected - and one of them told me that she never believed the post-op ladies that said that!

I have another 3 weeks to wait now. I am staying positive and staying busy. I still have times when the doubts and fears creep in but this website has restored my faith in human nature. You will find so much support here and helpful information. Good luck to all of you,

Thoughts go out to you!! I agree, the people here are awesome. We can keep trying to find peace with this decision, together, and be the ones who assure the preop sisters that it's ok- pretty soon!!!
Thanks!

2 weeks preop and scared

I remember the waiting. My TAH-BSO was 1-8-09. In mid-December, I had a couple of pre-surgery anxieties. I knew that's what they were, too. Friends checked in on me, showing their concern. Tears flowed during my explanation, but I told them I was fine otherwise. I wasn't being in denial, I knew that the feelings were just temporary. I am normally a happy, smiling person, and having tears isn't usually the norm--out of context.

Because I read up on my surgery, post-op [at every stage], and had a list of questions already answered by my doctor, I spent time at home deep cleaning, organizing, ordering/buying things for my recovery, I felt "ready" for surgery as best as I could. I still had anxiety and took time to breath and calm my heart. I prayed always, asking the LORD to bless the doctor, asst. surgeons, nursing staff that would take care of me in the hospital, and asking Him to take care of me regardless of the outcome.

The night before surgery, I followed all my prep instructions, prayed, and packed my bag, double/triple checking my list.
My surgery went well; I was first of the morning, and was in my room by early afternoon. I do remember that in recovery that I woke up thinking about Shirley Temple and the "Good Ship Lollipop", not singing it, just thinking about it. The things that make you smile.
Every thing went well for me. I am 5 weeks post op and was able to coach a friend who went through a LAVH 3 weeks after me.

My point is, I had anxiety, I have been there, and am now on the other side. Hystersisters helped me tremendously. Knowledge of my surgery and recovery helped me know what to expect, even if it didn't happen exactly for me. I expected the worst, and felt that if I didn't have the incision and feeling tired every now and then, asked myself, did I really have surgery? Every woman is different, but my recovery has been pretty smooth with a few rough patches that were minor.

I hope your surgery goes well and also to the others who wrote and are having/had their surgeries this week. I am thinking and praying for you.
