Mother nature may be there at time of hysterectomy

Hello everyone! I'm having the DeVinci hysterectomy on the 7th of Nov. According to my period calendar I will be on my period what happens then? Will I still be able to have the surgery? I'm a little freaked out that I'm going to be on at that time. UGhhhh!!!

Re: Mother nature may be there

Hi FTC1010, I started my last period the day before my surgery. I had asked my doctor about before hand and she said it happens to a lot of women. When my doctor came in to see me prior to surgery I told her that I had started my period and she said no problem at all. Talk to your doctor and let them know you might be on your period. I'm sure they will still do the surgery. Best of luck and see you on the other side.

Yep....a lot of women are bleeding when they go in for surgery. You won't be on your period for long lol.

Re: Mother nature may be there at time of hysterectomy

I started my period two days before surgery. I was a little embarassed when the nurse put down a pad on my bed after I changed into my hospital gown, but I went to sleep bleeding and haven't bleed ever since I woke up!

Yep, same here. Started my period the day before my surgery and like you, I thought my surgery had to be postponed.😊But at my pre-op appt. the nurse told me it was perfectly fine and normal. You'll just be given a pad and disposable underwear when you change into your hospital gown and they'll take care of everything after that. Praying for a successful surgery and a speedy recovery! 😊

Re: Mother nature may be there at time of hysterectomy

I was bleeding like a faucet the day of my surgery, and the nurse just handed me a HUGE pad, lol, and netting panties. They called them the Victoria's Secrets. It made me even happier to get my surgery done and over, and kiss that craziness goodbye!

I am due to start the day of. Hopefully it won't happen, but if it does it will be my shortest period ever.
