Pre-Op is Monday

Hi, I'm back. I lost my thread but have recovered. I am calmer now alot of thanks to you for your support. My pre-op appt is on Monday, I spent a few days last week in the hospital but I feel better now and I am off of work until the week of Thanksgiving. I had another cyst this time on my right ovary and I am sure it has burst, thank goodness my GP prescribed me Levaquin to catch any kind of infection since the last cyst that burst caused a bacterial infection, guess I got lucky this time. Dr.'s [that I have seen] don't think cysts are really anything to worry about but mine sure do hurt alot. I was scheduled to have a vaginal hysterectomy leaving the ovaries but I have decided against that, I want my ovaries removed because I see no reason to keep suffering from cysts though I am concerned about hormone therapy. I hope that at my pre-op I am allowed to speak with my Dr. to tell him of my decision and that he will comply. The last time a week ago I called to speak with my Dr. I was told that there was no need for him to see me until my surgery and there was nothing else they could do for me, my GP took me off of work and gave me meds for pain, which I use very sparingly. I've had bleeding this whole time and 3 days of heavy bleeding recently which I think was my period and now just spotting. I feel so lost and out of control. I am so glad you are here to talk to. Thank you.

Awww, I am so sorry you have to deal with that nasty ruptured cyst problem! I only experienced a doozy of one once and that was plenty enough for me. If I had them often I would ask for my ovaries to go too! Can't say as I blame you for that. But I want to tell you, since I was also concerned about hormones after surgery, that I have been on the Climara patch and have really been doing great since my surgery. My husband is pretty happy with my disposition even. Just spend some time researching on the Hormone Jungle section here to get an idea of what you might want to try out for starters. I am on a low dose and for me it has worked, though I know we are all different and sometimes it takes some tweeking to get it right. But it may turn out good the first try too!

I hope you will feel less lost and out of control but to be honest I think most of us tend to feel that way at different points prior to surgery. Just be sure to come here often as needed! We are here for ya! Hugs and Blessings, Shawn

Penny,

Shawn is right, do some reading on the hormone boards and talk to your doc. It is your decision and your body so make yourself heard.

I am 8 days post op from my TAH/BSO and on the same patch as Shawn, for me it is working great too. My moods are good, no hot flashes or night sweats. Everyone is different and we all require different things. I am 38 and feel better today than I did when I was 28, no kidding.

I will never again suffer from rupturing ovarian cysts, thank God! My path report showed that I had a "growth" inside my left ovary which was not a cyst (hummm) and a hemmoragic cyst inside my right ovary. I don't care what anyone says, the hurt like h*** when they break and believe me if it happened to a man they would think they were going to meet their maker.

Take heart, it is almost over and you will be on the other side soon.

s

Donna

Thanks

Thank You, honestly other than pamphets from the doctors office you ladies are the only people who are helping me to understand and take control of what is happening to me. Well I'm off to the hormone jungle!
