TAH Scared about 6 week checkup

I guess my biggest concern is if my dr is going to use that awful speculum...is it going to hurt??? I mean I didn't like it before I had the hyst and now, just wondering if it is going to really hurt.

I sound like a wuss. Sorry! I know she has to look up there but I am trying to get my head wrapped around what to expect.

i had the speculum exam at 2 weeks and it didn't hurt at all, i am thinking that with just the hysterectomy you should be pretty good from what i am reading, are you having pain down there anyways, if not then i would suspect it would be painful

i had lots of repairs so today when he touched i about jumped off the table, so i get to go in in another two weeks

i had to have exam after having a fall at 4 weeks.my GP(female) was so gentle,it didn't hurt at all.main thing is to relax..i know that is easier said than done but it really helps.

I'm one week post op and I'm worried about that same thing!

I was scared too. It did not hurt at all. Before my surgery it would hurt when she did her exam but it didn't all at my 6 week check up.

I had my 2-week check-up yesterday - doc used a speculum and it wasn't that bad. He cleaned up the area around the cuff, and that was a bit uncomfortable, but not painful.

I had my 6 week check up yesterday, and for me there was no pain at all. It wasnt something I want to do every day, but it didnt hurt. Good luck and try to relax the best you can. Just be sure to tell your doctor that your nervous so he/she can be extra gentle.

My dr is normally gentle. She tells me step by step what she is doing so I'm not nervous. I'll try to relax though. I just hope that all is well.

I didn't even get a vaginal check up when I went in for my 4 week check up. so maybe u won't even be checked down there!?

I was nervous as well since my appointment was at 2 1/2 weeks. However, my doctor used a smaller speculum for the internal exam and it was not uncomfortable. Many people don't know that they come in sizes and most doctors only use one size (a BIG one). However, they do have a virginal size if needed. Perhaps you can ask your doctor about using a smaller speculum as well.
