Weakness in Right Hand

I'm 6 days post op and experiencing weakness in my right hand and arm. The nurses had a hard time getting my IV in my right hand because my veins are small and tend to roll. I had to be stuck 4 or 5 times before they found a good "port." I can use my right hand but it's hard to open a bottle and writing requires a lot of effort. I intend to inform my doctor at my follow up appointment, which is in 5 days, but I wasn't sure if I should be overly concerned about it now. All thoughts and suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Re: Weakness in Right Hand

I had the same problem and I seem to have it following any surgery so I think it is a side effect of the anesthesia. I go one of those squeezy stress ball things and squeezed it several times a day. It increases the blood circulation. My strength came back to full strength in about 2 weeks.

If you don't have one on hand, you can fill a balloon with rice or flour.
