Doing too much? How do I know?

Hi all,
I am 4 days post-op right now and I feel great, Very little pain, only some sore muscles and back pain. However, I am getting quite bored at home, I want to go out and do things but I realize that I shouldn't. A friend is coming up for the weekend with her daughter and I want to go with them to an apple farm and perhaps do a few other things as well, but I also don't want to do too much. How do I know if I am doing too much and any advice to get over the boredom at home! I feel strange not working when I don't feel "sick"!

I believe I said those exact same words just a few days ago!

Your body will tell you when you do too much, either with pain or extreme fatigue. None of them worth trying to find the limit, in my opinion!

As many have said here, you only get one chance to heal properly: take it easy, listen you any sign your body will give you, stay well within your limits and be thankful for feeling so good!

I am glad you are feel well! That is great!

I would suggest calling your doctor's office and explain how you feel and then give a list of the activities you want to do and ask if they would be okay. Unfortunately, by the time our bodies register pain, tired, etc. from our actives, we have already done too much!

Doing too many activities all in the same weekend may not be the best plan. It is best to ease back into our normal routine, slowly adding new activities. Maybe you an choose one thing to do with your friend and then plan other activities at home.

Whatever you do, have an alternative plan just in case you are not feeling up to par this weekend. It is not uncommon to feel well for a few days, and then have a few draggier days as our bodies heal.

I hope you have a great visit with your friend this weekend and I hope the rest of your recovery goes as well as it has been!

Re: Doing too much? How do I know?

Don't do too much. I did and I am paying for it now. I too don't feel sick or fresh out of the hospital. I had my surgery last wednesday and got out of the hospital on Friday. Friday night I had my sisters/brother in laws/niece and nephews all over for dinner. We ordered out but it was still exhausting. Then on saturday I went grocery shopping (used an electric scooter), then went to my moms and sat and talked with her and my dad while my son trick or treated with his cousins. Then went to gramas and hung out. I didn't over do it. I sat when I was there and didn't do anything that would constitute over doing it. However, by the end of the evening my incision was bleeding and bleeding bad. I did nothing on Sunday and the incision was fine. Monday I sat at the desk and tried to catch up on bills/email/facebook. Incision bled again. Today it is bleeding as well and all I did was wake up. Take it easy. I know how bored you are. I am too. You can only do so much from a lounge chair and it is getting very boring for me and tomorr will be one week post op. My dr told me to slow it way down and take it easy. Don't do anything and let my body heal. Like someone else said. Your body won't tell you right away but you will pay for it in the long run.
