Anyone with similar problems ?

Hello to all the Ladies,

I am 27yr soon to be 28 yrs old and a mother of a 4 yrs old daughter and 2 yrs old son. Ever since i was a teenager i always had very painful periods and thought it was normal... but my periods were so unbearable i would either miss school or just leave school early from school because of the pains. It affected me so much i eventually dropped out of high school. ( sigh ) I continue to bear with my cycles being extremely painfull and with periods that would come ever 2 weeks. I was young and didnt get much information from my female family members. Once i gave birth to my daughter my periods were awesome hardly any pain. Everything was ok and i had my second child. After having dealt with two very long periods of Postpartum depression i decided i just didnt want to go threw all the physical and emotional stress, of having another child so i decided no more kids. In 2009 i got a procedure called "Essure". Essure is a permanent birth control, basically tubal ligation only without an operating room needed. Essure are two micro inserts ( tiny little coil or springs ) that are inserted in to the fallopian tubes to eventually make a complete blockage of ur fallopian tubes. Anyways thought i would give a lil information on this procedure that is new and i regret doing it. After a year after a year of this procedure my periods from Hell ! have returned. I find myself going to the ER or rocking myself in bed crying of the pain i get. I am practically living a single moms life and it really stops me from being a mom. The pain gets so bad i have to get help from my mother to help me with my kids. For the past 2 months not my periods have lasted 11 days ... and i am waiting for my Gyn appoint. and i am seriously considering getting a hysterectomy to my life back. Oh I also forgot i have a cervical prolapse, not a full prolapse put i can feel it when i clean myself. This also causes me alot of discomfort in general with or without my cycle.

I know that most of the ladies in here have their hysterectomy not by choice but i am looking for support and information ! meet people that understand what it is to live life like this. my main concern about getting the hysterectomy is ... will it be worth it? ( althought i am sure life without pain would be awesone) and fear of getting my hormones so out of wack that i get into a depression again just like i was for my horrifing postpartum depreession.

Thank you
Lally

Re: Anyone with similar problems ?

My periods were very heavy prior to having my first (and only) child. I usually wore two pads, a tampon, and during the beginning of each period, wrapped toilet paper around the pads. After I had my son, my periods were still horrible even on birth control pills. My first OBGYN, the same one who let me push for over 3 hours during delivery of my son, commented that my periods seems overly heavy during an annual exam but didn't otherwise comment. I kept complaining of severe lower back pain, and he blamed the epidural even though the epidural was inserted above the area that hurt. I eventually demanded an ultrasound and he diagnosed me with possible endometriosis and fibroids. He wanted to do a diagnostic lap surgery. A friend who has had 4 surgeries for endo begged me to go to a better doctor. I did.

The second (and most awesome) OBGYN ordered an ultrasound and did a thorough manual exam and diagnosed me with adenomyosis and possible endometriosis. She explained all of this very well to me and wanted to give me options, as the only cure for adenomyosis is hysterectomy. The treatments (Lupron and Depo Provera) helped somewhat for over a year, but the adenomyosis finally won this December and I am now having a gloriously easy recovery from hysterectomy. I feel better now, only 4 days after my hysterectomy, than I have felt in YEARS.

Your symptoms sound like adenomyosis to me- symptoms worsened after childbirth, heavy periods with pain, etc. Unfortunately, most cases of adenomyosis can't be diagnosed until after a hysterectomy. In my case, the uterus no longer had any lining whatsoever, as it had completely invaded the muscle. If I were you, I would consult with a good OBGYN or endometriosis specialist. This condition can sap all of the energy and drive out of you due to constant inflammation (the inflammation can spread to other organs even though the endometriosis or endometrial glands might not touch the other organs) and make you feel like you are barely surviving every day. 4 days after my operation and my family is begging me to go sit down or lie down as I'm supposed to be recovering from surgery. I feel such a surge of energy I want to do everything I can. You deserve your life back!

Oh, and removal of the ovaries is not always necessary. And if they are removed, your doctor can work with you to treat the menopause symptoms.
