Returning to work concerns

It will be six weeks and three days from the date of my op until the day I go back to work. I operate heavy earthmoving machinery and work 12 hour shifts. I'm wondering whether it will be ok to be bouncing around in a cab?

Re: How soon did you return to work?

I found that the sitting was a problem. It sure makes my belly swell. I am taking it day by day and have to keep reminding myself that this was necessary so I don't get too discourages. I think bouncing isn't going to feel the best. Good luck!

Re: How soon did you return to work?

I will need to discuss it with my specialist at my post-op appointment. If I have to go on light/restricted duties for a while then so be it since my insides will still be healing, although I'm not sure I want to be sitting there for 12 hours staring at a screen and watching to see if lightning is present within 20km of site! There isn't anything else for someone on light duties to do as far as I know.

Re: Returning to work concerns

I went back to a mostly desk job at 6 weeks and was exhausted. My cuff was not yet healed at my 6 week post op appt so while she allowed me to return to work, everything else (lifting, sex, ect) was still restricted. 13 weeks post op tomorrow and I'm still having pain Every one heals differently- some women breeze through recovery, others struggle a bit (like me) or a lot. You just can't predict. I'd plan for the worst- at least 6 weeks off and then light duty for a few weeks and if you recover great and have no issues, yay!

Re: Returning to work concerns

I had DvH on 12/11. I also have a very physical job, I work 12 hrs shifts also, all but 45 mins of my day is on my feet lifting no less than 40 lbs. I talked to my doc she put me out for 8 weeks and no work restrictions when I return. I am terrified of going back, I still have pain when bending, and get very tired from doing very little. If I cant perform at 100% when I get back they are going to fire me.
Sorry dont mean to hijack your post just letting you know I know where your standing. Good Luck to you with everything.

That's a bit rough. My employer is pretty good with people who have had an op or some kind of prolonged illness. If I find that it hurts to operate the machinery I can go to the local doctor's surgery and get a medical certificate and be put on light duties. The company I work for has its own doctor but he isn't on site all the time.

I work at the same type of business, but, I do the payroll, billing and get the permits............I hope to return to work one week out, but i am willing to take more time if needed....especially since we are from Michigan and this is our slow time in the office!

Take care!

Re: Returning to work concerns

I have a desk job at home, in pretty good shape, and still found the utter exhaustion to be my biggest challenge. I can't imagine 12 hours upright at that point, but everyone is different. I had a difficult time just walking for 3 hours doing Christmas shopping 4 months post op. Finally getting back in to my walking routine. Had several ops before this one and nothing compared to the exhaustion level of this one with no abdominal incision.
