I am due to have my hysterectomy on the 22 of jan so a week away today. I started my period today and popped one ibprofen. I dont want my surgery postponed due to one ibprofen. Is it okay since I still have a week to go? What do u all think?

Were you told not to? Check with your doctor but for me I was told not to take anything 24 hours before. Surgery. They also told me not to take and herbal supplements for three days before. Have you had you pre op appt. yet as this is generally when they discuss these things.

Hi yes I actually called them cause I was freaked out. They told me it was ok dont take anymore. I go to my pre surgery in the morning.

Yes, please do not take any more. Ibuprofen, asprin, Vitamin E, and other OTC drugs can thin your blood. You should be given a long list of instructions, with dos and don'ts. You need to follow those to the letter.

I was told not to take iburprofen the week before surgery, as it's a blood thinner. So your one tablet was borderline, and I'm not surprised by the response you got. What you *can* take is acetaminophen (paracetamol, Tylenol) as this doesn't have blood-thinning effects.

I accidentally took two ibuprofen for a backache a week before my surgery. The doctor said it was okay and I did not have any complications. It's an easy mistake to make.
