How long should I stay on Cipro

Hi sisters,
I had my TAH on Sep1 and had to go home with a catheter:confused. After they removed the cath (day 7) I developed a UTI and now I am on CIPRO for 5 days.
In your experience will 5 days on cipro be enought to heal the infection? I read on internet that recommended lenght of treatment is 7 days.
Should I as the doc for extra days on the med?

I'm not sure how the doctor determines the amount of days. I was on Cipro for 10 days after I developed my UTI after my op.

I've been on it up to 30 days (for diverticulitis). It really depends on how bad the infection is, and your doctor is the one best able to judge that. You could call and ask, but don't second guess the doctor on what was prescribed or for how long just because of something you read on the Internet.

I was on Cipro for a UTI and was prescribed 7 days. I found out the hard way that I am highly allergic to Cipro. SO, the Dr had to prescribe something else. My UTI was so bad that they had to give me 2 different antibiotics to get it to go away (this was way before surgery, though). I would say that your Dr knows best on the amount of time. If you do not feel like it is working after 3 days, though, call him/her and they may prescribe more or something different.

A friend of mine was just on Cipro for a UTI and I'm pretty sure it was for 5 days. If in doubt though, call your dr.
