I just got some info from my doctor that I wanted to share with everybody. Most people might already know but I didn't so maybe there are others that don't as well. She let me know today that she don't do LAVH because you face the complications with both vaginal and laperscopic as well. She each by them self just not the 2 together. I don't think the complications are common this is just her preference. It's not the surgery I'm getting anyway but we got to talking and it came up. Hope this help somebody.

I wouldn't be worried its just my doctors preference. She said she would either go vaginally or laperscopic but not together. But each doc has their own preference hen it comes to surgery.

I had LAVH almost 6 weeks ago and have had no complications and so far a pretty good recovery. I think it's important to note that while this is one docs preference, others are very skilled at this procedure. It's always important when a procedure is chosen to understand your docs experience level with that specific procedure so you have confidence in their ability. Don't be afraid to ask your doc how many times they've done an LAVH procedure, I did.
Complications can occur with any procedure, and it's important that what is decided on is also based on what's right given your individual situation.
If anyone is going for this procedure, please understand that lots of other women have gone through it before, and if your doc is skilled in his/her abilities you can have a great outcome.
Best of luck for a speedy recovery.

I completely agree 100%. This is something she only stopped doing about 8 months ago. I just wanted to pass along some info that I hadn't heard prior to today. I hope I didn't worry anyone, this is just my doctors preference.

Re: Fyi- lavh

I'm having a LAVH BSO in a week. When I had my pre-op appointment my doctor told me that the LAVH was the recommended procedure for my gyno problems. I've had surgery with him before and he is always very thorough with asking me for information and answering my questions and I've since called and asked questions as they came up. I'm sure your doctor wouldn't mind if you called and asked why he/she choose LAVH for you. It might help relieve some anxiety for you.

I was concerned as your post can be easily misinterpreted by people as it your "info" infers that LAVH is a risky procedure and that's why your doc prefers alternatives. It is in fact a very safe procedure and for many women the best and safest option, I think this needs to be clarified better in your post.

Different procedures are better/worse than others based on individual scenarios. In my case a laparoscopic only procedure was not an option due to the size of my fibroids however the laparoscopic added the benefit to a vaginal only of my doc being afforded a clear view of all my organs to actually avoid complications such as accidentally nicking my bladder, etc... and the LAVH procedure allowed me to avoid an abdominal incision.

It's fine to post what your doc prefers but please be careful how it's worded. Had I read your post prior to my surgery and not taken the time to educate myself, I would have been panicked. We have to remember some women do not do a lot of research or in some cases simply don't have the time to do so and they rely on the site for help and guidance which is why it's always important before posting to re-read it prior to sending just to be sure it reads right
Good luck with your surgery, I hope all goes well

Re: Fyi- lavh

I had what turned out to be a vaginal TLH-BSO. Dr could not cut up the parts and remove them through the lap incisions. I had a small tear in my v from this - I'm small, never had kids - but it was stitched and does not bother me. Women seeking answers on this site site often arrive here anxious and scared. They might come away thinking vaginal removal should be avoided. Every sister's case is unique and every dr has her own preference. Keep smiling! We are here to help each other!

Yes I do understand what you are saying. I definetly not saying that a LAVH was not safe by any means, just relaying info that my doctor and the doctor that is with her practices. I hope I didn't offend anybody or get anybody worried! Is there anyway to delete this post? I was just posting info as I heard it

Re: Fyi- lavh

Will be having my pre op on the 27th so will ask my doc then why he has chosen LAVH . Think it's due to most proby having lots of adhesions in there also so wants to have a good look round at things , I have done alot of research on LAVH just never really questioned how many my do has done etc
