Dr appt. Should I feel crazy or relieved?

So today is the start of week 4. Had my first and I guess only post op appointment today. My Dr. Said that my surgery was an hour and s half with no complications or suprises. Great, good news for surrelievede. (Fyi- atypical cells in uterus so got everything out to prevent cancer in the future)

I told the Dr. I am crying at commercials and he said it was not linked to surgery. I am on estrogen and have not had hot flashes. Said I felt menstraul like cramping and sharp stabby pains where my ovaries would be occasionally. He said they are phantom pains because my body doesn't realize my those organs are gone yet. I am experiencing insomnia. He says that would not be due to surgery. He did a quick exam, said my cuff is still inflamed but he expected that...THAT WAS IT. No I'll see you in 4 weeks or anything.

Am I crazy and looking a gift horse in the mouth????

Re: Dr appt. Should I be honkerblonked or relieved?

I had my one and only post-op appointment four weeks after surgery. I had cancer, so most of the appointment involved reviewing the post-op pathology report. My doc said I didn't need radiation or chemo, just check-ups every 3-4 months.

He didn't do a pelvic exam. We discussed what I was cleared to do right away (run, cycle, swim, lift up to 30 lbs and return to work) vs. what I should two more weeks before attempting (lifting more than 30 lbs, abdominal exercise).

He said to stop at the reception desk on my way out to get the date and time for my first check-up in a few months and that was it.

I'm sorry your doc blew off your concerns re: crying, pain and insomnia, but as to not having any further appointments, that's pretty normal.

Re: Dr appt. Should I be honkerblonked or relieved?

I had two post op appointments. He never went over the what found or the pathology reports. On my four week post op he did a exam and said very thing was fine and I can play football????? I play golf and see you in a year. I do not think so. He was nice but I asked about my watery discharge he did not answer it.

I went back to my regular doctor and he went over every thing. I am having a bladder problems and I will go to my regular and ask for a different gyno.

If you have more questions I would go back and talk to your
regular doctor. It was good about the results.

Take Care

Re: Dr appt. Should I be honkerblonked or relieved?

I only had one appointment at 2 weeks and that's it. Will follow up with my regular gyn for pap smears (I kept my cervix) starting this summer...

Re: Dr appt. Should I be honkerblonked or relieved?

I had the phantom cramping for quite a few months post op. I thought I was nuts until I joined HysterSisters and began reading where others experienced the exact same thing. The cramping did eventually dissipate and go away.

The insomnia is quite common at this point in your recovery. My sleep patterns totally changed for awhile post op. Your body is recovering from major surgery and adjusting to the new you, without ovaries.
