Weird cravings? Sensory sensitivity?

Prior to joining this sight I thought I was loosing my mind, because of all of the things happening with my body. But after reading all of the threads and stories I indeed came to find out that everything that was happening with my mind and body was totally natural for a young woman who had just had a TAH...

But there is one thing that has happened to me that I have NOT seen anyone speak about. My sense of smell has gone from 5 to 500 since my surgery? Is this normal? and what is even stranger is that I am not having food cravings, but I crave certain smells ~ CLEANING PRODUCTS!! About 2 weeks post-op, I started having a craving for the smell of Pinesol cleaner. I called in my family to clean every week & as soon as I was able, I was cleaning my house just to enjoy the smell of pinesol, from there (thus my name Cometgurl) I am now craving the smell of Comet. It got so bad that I would carry a little baggie of comet in my purse. I spoke to my Dr., because I was really worried that I was loosing it & he told me it was totally natural, that my body was making adjustments and it craved something that those products produced... WHAT!?!? So I didn't really worry about it too much, but every now and then I still crave Comet, especially after I eat or after a hot-flash.

Am I the only weirdo out there? Any advice? help a Sister Out...

I like the smell of that cleaner with bleach clean up in it.................I keep having moments where I can't remember things. Anyway I would spray it just to feel like things were neat and tidy when I was not able to clean before surgery ( I hurt more before than after so far).

So while I didn't carry it around with me, I understand what you are talking about.

Weird cravings? Sensory sensitivity?

Doesn't sound crazy to me because I have been craving the smell of the electrasol gel tabs that I use in my Dishwasher.. Luckily last night my husband loaded up the dishwasher since I am a week post op, and I got to smell that smell.. Now if he would bring me a sausage pizza, lay potato chips and a coke, then I will be one happy woman.

Weird cravings? Sensory sensitivity?

I haven't been craving smells, but I HAVE been hypersensitive to things I'm allergic to. Heck, I'm even learning I have new allergies! I picked from fresh basil last week, now I have "scratch" marks on my neck where I"m certain I touched it after picking the basil. Grrrrr. And then there are the still-present red marks/scabs from where I used a latex bandage over my incision hole. The reaction to the bandaide was almost as bad as the incision mark.

So yes, weird body reactions post op.

Weird cravings? Sensory sensitivity?

I haven't been craving smells but I was seriously jonesing for some Strawberry QUIK last night at 11:00 PM. Weird, because I haven't had it in years! It just popped in my head for some reason and I mentioned it to DH. This evening, he brought me some and now I don't really want it, but I drank some anyway because he's so sweet.--. Weird!

I also had waaayyy too many tater tots last night, deep fried in yummy oil. Wish I hadn't done that because the acid reflux afterward was awful. I made pancakes for supper tonight. DH finally figured out that my ovaries must be working because it's almost time for my period that won't be coming!
