Frozen Shoulder Syndrome after hysterectomy - possible cause; drop in hormones.

I had my hysterectomy Dec 23, 2013. Probably 2 months later, I started having pain in my left shoulder mostly at night. My arm felt numb so I thought it was the way I was sleeping but it didn't go away completely during the day. After dealing with it for several weeks, I noticed I was having trouble reaching around to unsnap my bra. I went to my primary care dr. and she took xrays and found nothing wrong. She gave me meds and still no relief. I went to the ortho dr. that diagnosed me as having frozen shoulder syndrome. I'm now in physical therapy and its helping. After researching, it has to do with a drop in hormones. I thought everything would be fixed after my hysterectomy but I never had heard of it or knew this was a possible symptom. Just thought I would share. Hope it helps someone who is having the same unexplained pain.

If you had just uterus, you had a laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy. If you had uterus and cervix, you had a total laparoscopic hysterectomy. Since you said you had an incision through the belly button, regardless of total or not, at some point you were probably head down towards the floor to allow for better access to your uterus. A lot of operating rooms use shoulder support, which is padded bars on each shoulder secured to the bed on each side. The hospital that I work at used to use that method, but are now using a memory foam pad and there is no tension on the shoulders at all. Not saying the shoulder support type caused your injury. Hope you feel better soon.
