Celebrating / Mourning last period before TAH ...

I am on day 4 of the "normal" period from hell ... and I find myself celebrating the fact that this is my last one, and on the other hand find myself in tears (regularly) about this too. I thought I had made peace with this decision - and believe me am more than ready to say goodbye to all this pain and bleeding - and the oxycontin riddled days in bed.
Yet I am sad - sad that my baby days are over, sad that I will be losing that part of me that makes me fertile, youthful and in essence a woman ...
It's an interesting mix of emotions ... I guess the closer I get to my surgery date, the more confused my feelings are getting.
Any suggestions on how to deal with the emotional fall out would be greatly appreciated ...

I was getting nervous about my upcpming surgery date too. But then I woke up in excruating pain from yet another ovarian cyst, and now I am even more anxious to get it done. I have had two children, and so I guess I am not attached to losing my uterus/ovaries. And honestly I never felt like I was losing my womenhood, I will tell you though what I think helped with that. My aunts who have both had hysterectomys took me shopping for all these moisturizer cremes, anti aging and firming stuff. They got me bath gels, lotions, etc. WOW! I didnt realize you needed so much, I never felt more womenly having all my new "girl" stuff. I feel like I need more femenine products then I ever had before! Plus all the new dresses I had to buy, my mom bought me some pretty pink slippers, got some pretty feminine sheets, etc. I also think going through this very surgery, if anything, states just exactly what a strong women I am, and all the other women who have had it.

I'm scheduled for my TAH in 8 days. I had my last period a week ago and we had a party. We invited everyone for a LPP, Last Period Party for some and Last Pool Party for others. I'm so glad not to have to go through another one.
