Pain Pill Madness

This is day eight. A friend of mine had this same surgery and was back at work after two weeks. I can barely make it through the day. I washed a load of laundry and made dinner yesterday and was paying for it all day today. I was sick all day today, close to vomiting and loose bowels, running a low grade fever. I hate taking my pain meds because they make me super itchy (percocet - am allergic to vicodin) but everytime I try to back off them, I am in tremendous pain. Seriously, when will this end.

I had very large cyst and my uterus was inflamed and growing into the surrounding the muscle tissue. I feel like an emotional wreck.

Everyone heals differently hun. I am two weeks post op and still have to take pain medication but not as much as I did. Just listen to your body and try talking to your Dr about a different pain medication maybe demerol. I will pray for you hun. God Bless.

Re: Pain Pill Madness

Please rest and take care of yourself. It's too soon for you to be tackling laundry and making dinner. Isn't there someone else who could do this for you?

I agree you need to rest and take it easy . especially as you said you are close to vomiting , loose bowels and have a low grade fever. Leave the chores and rest up . hugs xxx
As to your question as to when will this end, the first couple of weeks are the hardest I had my sister to help me for the first couple of weeks I did nothing. Have you got anyone to help you ? After 2 weeks things start to gradually get easier but my husband was cooking for weeks he is still cooking more than I am and I am over 6 weeks now. hugs xx

Re: Pain Pill Madness

I hate pain meds and its a good thing that I have a pretty high tolerance. i have not taken anything but ibuprofin since I left the hospital a week ago. Also pain meds make me very nasous. But I agree maybe you should talk to your doc and see if there is a low dose pain med to help you wean off then and then take tylenol or advil to pick up any slack. As far as housework goes, I am thankful for my mother in law. She has taken over everything dealing with the house and kids. She won't allow me to do anything outside of walk around and pour myself coffee. She reminds me of the ugly scars she has from her hysterectomy if i think about doing to much.

I have had to really listen to my body as far as when to stop moving tthough and I do take a couple of naps throughout the day.

Try and rest hun. I know its hard. If your like me you feel like you have been demoted from superhero to side kick and its hard watching the world go by and the house not being cleaned the way you'd do it.

Take a deep breath, rest, call doc.

Re: Pain Pill Madness

I was still taking my pain meds quite a bit at 8 days post op. Slowly I was able to decrease to now I just take one pill before bed. I'm 2 weeks and 4 days post op. Just try to rest. I too was slowly doing laundry but I still don't lift the baskets and I've had my 8 yr old helping me asshe can with things around the house.

Re: Pain Pill Madness

Remember your surgery sounds fairly complex so you can't really compare that to your friend's surgery. Be sure to take ibuprofen if allowed since that helps the inflammation, which causes much of the pain. Some people need more time, and you aren't ready to do chores yet. Rest up, I hope you feel better soon.
