hormones after vaginal hysterectomy
Hi Girls,
This is my first post. I was wondering if anyone knew how hormones react after vag.hyter with ovaries intact? Will I still get the same mood swings and symptoms of bloating and cravings throughout the month like before or do they disappear once the uterus and cervix are removed? Any advice would be great. Thanks,
Bennu

hormones after vaginal hysterectomy
Hi Bennu and
I can't answer your question exactly, but can tell you of my experience of my TVH. Your question is one that I had myself before surgery because everyone suffered my hormones too, including work and I later found out in recovery they had a nickname for me ... the rottweiller ... and quite honestly, I wasn't surprised and was deserved for the rages were uncontrollable not matter how hard I tried.
The gyn said they couldn't say for sure how bad PMT/PMS would be post surgery and we decided to keep ovaries because of my age mainly but also to give them a chance to show they could behave!
I'm glad I did as they are soooooo much better. I do get some bloating sometimes along with (chocolate!) cravings but mood swings are virtually non existant now. It ties in with what would have been my flo cyles but is no where near as bad as before. I'm just myself now.
It took about 6 months to settle into this new pattern and the worst one was at about 3 months post op and I was a gibbering wreck. My GP is gyn trained and was reluctant to begin any hrt of any kind to give my ovaries a chance to sort themselves out. I'd been on a long course of hormone type treatment which he wanted to let my body work through. I'm glad I took his advice but it was awful at the time and I thought it would never improve.
The best I can suggest is to talk to your doc's about it because they will know your problems and should beable to guide you. As I said, my doc's couldn't say for sure and by talking it through with them, I had a good idea about what could be done if I still had bad problems after surgery. I hope this helps and hopefully others will be along soon to talk with you also.

hormones after vaginal hysterectomy
Hi there, I hope your recovery is going well.... I am experiencing some PMS symptoms such as cramping, and sore breasts...docs don't seem to think this is unusual and want me to give it some time, so I am trying to think positive and allow my whole body to heal.....Happy healing

It's amazing how we can still have the mood swings and the cravings. I kept one ovary, and I still have PMS. I still crave my hershey bars once a month. I went for a pap test last month and was telling the GYN, about this. She said your ovary must be working well. So yes we still can go thru this and I have talked with other women who don't. I wish you the best in your recovery !

I had my LSH 2 days after RedM (above) and still have my ovaries and cervix. So far, I've had two post-op bouts with PMS. The first was no picnic and the 2nd is downright dreadful. I talked to the Dr. about it and he was very encouraging that things would settle down and would be "normal" over time. He said I would still have PMS - emotional, tender breasts, tender ovary, some swelling, etc. Just no bleeding!

It has been over 5 yrs, and yes, I still have PMS (or actually PNS--pre nothing syndrome). Different ladies end up with different symptoms depending on how your own ovaries behave. Best wishes to you!
