Proud of Myself
Ok, so I just talked to my dr. yesterday and the hysterectomy date is set for 8/16/06. So today the dr.'s office called to arrange for the pre-op and I freaked-out a bit and said that I wanted to cancel everything. When I hung up I was so sad. I'm so tired of the pain (fibroids) and heavy times, and I really need to take care of myself even if we have tight financial times because of it. I need to put myself first for a while and really take my health and wellbeing seriously, so I called the dr.'s office back, apologized for cancelling, and said that I wanted to go through with it. Knowing that I am only one painful period away from no more painful periods is really making me a happy camper!! I'm proud of myself for sticking with this, since I am having this done to enhance my life and I feel compelled to justify my decision (to myself) since I am not having the surgery for a life endangering condition.

Good for you!
The anticipation is way harder than the actual act.
You'll be fine and you can add "brave" to your profile!!

I was extremely frightened when I was told I had to have a hysterectomy and I could not agree more, the waiting is the hardest part, read through the articles on this site; for me knowledge was very relaxing and of course any questions that you may have can be answered by so many sisters. Good luck to you!!!

Good for you stick in there. Right now you have so much time to think about whats going to happen and you amp yourself up. Its like getting on a rollercaoster. You want to ride it, but as you wait in line you get a good look at all the ups, downs, and arounds. Before you know it you are worried about getting on, and then you do. Once you get off the ride your ready to do it again. Read, read, read. Ask any question we are here for you.

Ditto Jaclyn,
Sandy--- Just stay on the boards, read, read, read and post, post, post. Ask anything and everything. I know exactly how you feel as do all the women on these boards. Waiting is the hardest. Just log on and write exactly what you are feling and thinking. the sisters will get you thru it ALL. I was scared to death, but weighed the pro's and con's of going thru with this. The pro's won handsdown, but not without the wisdom of the boards. This site is what gave me the courage, the strength and the wisdom. I am now 10 days post-op and still here. Everyday pre-surg. and post-surg. brings new questions, feelings, issues and options.
This is major sugery and a huge decision. You will find you'll get everything you need right here. Now get busy at home putting together a support team and you'll do fine.
Stay connected! Post away! Good Luck! We are all here for you!
Hugs,
Liz

I know how you feel....I am going in tomorrow for my hyst. and when it is not something life threatening, and you can back out, you sometimes feel like you want to. I have the same problem as you, a very large fibroid and some others we don't know the size of, and VERY heavy periods. I know I am making the right decision, even if it is just for the no painful heavy periods. It is a quality of life decision for me. God Bless you ... Hang in there

It is funny (sort of) but right after I posted today, I started having bad "labor" cramps and this is my 6th day of period, so once again, the validation of why I'm doing this comes to the forefront of my mind. LOL
I'm thinking of you NewYorkChic and Spiritmaiden on your upcoming surgeries.
God Bless Us All!!!!
