post op TAH now 4 months

ok ladies, I have a question for whoever may know something. after surviving the ordeal of the surgery which was no small feat in itself, I am very pleased that I am feeling "normal" actually better than normal i would say, didnt think I would be able to say that a couple months ago! however, since I had cancer the doc said I cannot take any hormones EVER, but my husband says I am very "short fused" now, and I would agree. could this be related to a lack of hormone balance? or are there physical symptoms that would be a better predictor of this. mind you, I had long ago gone through menopause so I was not having any hormone issues before surgery, but I do realize that the female organs even after menopause do serve a function hormonally. any ideas? thanks

Re: post op TAH now 4 months

It is completely possible that this is hormone related. Even after menopause, the ovaries still make some hormones, so when you had them removed, it took what little you had away from you. I am surprised that this would be your only symptom though. Usually women have hot flashes and night sweats as the first symptom....but not always. We are all different.

I would give your doctor a call just to let them know what is going on. Maybe there is something else you could take. I know after my surgery, even with my estrogen replacement, I was still so moody. My doctor tried to add progesterone, which made me worse instead of better. I had to quite taking the prog. and he prescribed a low dose anti-depressant that has worked wonders for me.

I am in no way insinuating that you are depressed, but sometimes a low dose anti-depressant can do the trick and even out your moods a little better. I would give the a call and at least discuss what options might be available to you.

I hope you find some answers soon and can find something that will make you feel better.

hey, thanks for the input, it is just the confirmation i needed. I have a doc appt for this wednesday and I will be talking about, just that... a low dose antidepressant. I dont feel depressed but, sometimes depression can manifest itself in different ways. I care for my mom with alzheimers and my husband is on dialysis for kidney failure. I clean my inlaws house once a week and work inbetween times. my plate feels pretty full all the time. so, I am hoping the doc can help me out a bit.

I'm glad to hear that you are seeing your doctor about this. I hope the two of you are able to find something that will help you. You are absolutely right that depression can manifest in different ways. And you have so much going on in your life right now, so it is completely understandable that you are a little short fused.

Please let me know what you find out! I hope you are back to your old self again soon!
