Half-Marathon at 15 weeks post?!

I'm wondering if a half-marathon at 15 weeks post-op is too ambitious? Before my surgery I was training for another half, and running 4-5 times/week - up to 25-30 miles /week. I am currently in my third week of recovery, and have had no issues. I am walking at least 2 miles and up to 5 miles each day. Belly swells a little after the longer walks, but no abdominal pain. I was planning to use a beginners training plan rather than the intermediate one I normally use. I also am planning to walk on the downhill portions of the race, and I am certainly not going to try for a PR. It is a fundraising race that I have done the past few years, and I really would like to participate again (especially since my "destination race" for this weekend is out of the question!)... Any thoughts??

Which type of surgery did you end up having?

I had a TAH.

I did a half marathon 11 weeks post-op. I had Davinci though, not TAH, so not sure if completely comparable. But it sounds like you were training well pre-surgery, so that helps. I was expecting to walk a lot a just finish, but I actually beat my best time by 19 seconds! I am not fast by any means, but still was exciting!
I am now just over a year post-op. I ended up running 5 half marathons, a Ragnar Relay and a 10k last year. Shaved 24 mins total off my half marathon time!! Am now training for my first (and only) full marathon in 5 weeks and will do 5-6 halfs and Ragnar this year, plus some shorter runs. Still not speedy (or young, I am 51), but running is so much easier without the heaviness of fibroids! :-)
